Garden Girl Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 (edited) Well, I'm just really bummed... Disaster for BYU Cougar football... Taysom Hill has sustained a broken leg and is now out for who knows how long...Utah State is leading 35 - 17 and are pumped up... the replacement quarterback for BYU has thrown 6 straight incompletions that could have been big yardage or even touchdowns. But even before Taysom was injured in the 2nd Quarter BYU wasn't playing their usual game. When they broke for half time, Bronco Mendenhall said that the team was not built around just one person, whicih is true... and that they'd just have to work around it.They're in the 4th quarter and I don't see how BYU can catch up... Everyone is stunned... GG Edited October 4, 2014 by Garden Girl
Garden Girl Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Well the Lady Cougars Volleyball Team does it again... a 3 - 0 sweep of Santa Clara: 1) 25 - 10... 2) 25 - 15... 3) 25 - 18 I can hardly stand to think of football and what lies ahead if we don't pull it together and keep things going in spite of losing Taysom Hill... Right now we're 18th in the country unless this loss changes that and we lose our place.... GG
Damien the Leper Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 Someone posted on a Facebook thread of David Bokovoys saying that God was too busy with GC to bother with BYU and Utah State game. And the Utes won too! Arizona beat Oregon. All in all God was with us watching college ball.
Garden Girl Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I could just scream!!! BYU just lost the game to Central Florida Univ, 31 - 24... a game BYU should have won!! They don't even play like the old team w/Taysom... the first quarter was an embarrassment. They didn't even get a first down until the second quarter. They finally came alive in the last half of the 2nd and during the 3rd quarter... but again, really stupid personal fouls like a facemask for heavens sake... there should be some type of penalty a team can give players for such fouls... the 15 yard penalty gave UCF the field position they needed to tie BYU at 24-all... We had been leading 24 - 17 and then that foul, which led to a UCF touchdown to tie the game at 24... We were able to hold them which put us in overtime... but again, mistakes/fouls gave UCF yardage for a touchdown... and we were not able to answer. Overtime ended... UCF wins... 31 - 24. Christian Stewart did pretty good once he settled down, and made some good plays, including 3 touchdowns... Sigh... My blood pressure must be sky high... GG
Garden Girl Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) So sorry for your loss. I know, Cal, in the scheme of things it is but a blip... but I love BYU sports and look forward to the various team games... I mean, I'm going on 74... it's not like I've got a lot to entertain me... Ha! I was so bummed over our loss to UCF, I completely forgot to give credit to the Women's Soccer team... Ashley Hartch scored 3 goals against... I forget now who they played, but they won! This afternoon the Women's Volleyball beat St Mary's 3 sets to 1... They play Gonzaga tonight at 6:00 PM my time... It will be televised on BYU-TV... Gonzaga has won 3 straight games... BYU has won 7 straight... I hear it coming on... so let's hope the lady Cougar keep up their winning ways... GG Edit to Add: Woo Hoo!! The Women's Soccer team beat Gonzaga 2 - 0... It was an exciting game, with both of BYU's goals coming in the first part of the second half, and within about 3 - 4 minutes of each other. This makes 8 straight games BYU women Cougs have won... and a conference record of 3 - 0... This puts them on top of the WCC. Go ladies!! Edited October 12, 2014 by Garden Girl
Garden Girl Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) #9 BYU Women's Volleyball team is the only undefeated team in the WCC (7 - 0) and have won 11 matches in a row overall. This evening they go against San Diego, hoping to get No. 12. No BYU- TV coverage... Tonight on BYU-TV will be Boom Shakalaka where we will see the Men's and Women's basketball teams in various tests of skill... 6:00 PM my time (Pacific), repeated at 9:00 PM. I remember last year was really fun... Tomorrow our Cougars football team plays Nevada... I'm nervous about this one... Nevada is a good team... and we all know what can happen when we think a game is surely going to go BYU's way... GG Edit to Add: Well the Women's Volleyball team lost to San Diego 3 sets to 2... it must have been a hard fought match to go to the fifth set... they rarely had to play past 3 sets... they've now had to relinquish their undefeated status in WCC play... Edited October 18, 2014 by Garden Girl
Garden Girl Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 This morning I'm so bummed that our BYU football team lost to Nevada (42 - 35) in our homecoming game... in spite of playing quite well under the circumstances, i.e., 2nd and 3rd string players against a seasoned, healthy Nevada. And Chris Stewant did well considering this was only his second game as quarterback... 4 touchdowns, 400+ yards, rushing ability, etc. Too many errors and turnovers for BYU... Actually, BYU should have won... they led a good part of the time... The final turnover on a drive toward a tying goal in the last minute of the game sealed the Cougars fate... that it was Stewart who fumbled made it even more painful... But there was bright news also.... the Women's Soccer Team won it's 9th staight game 3 - 0 against Loyola Marymountl. They are #19, and lead the WCC... GG

Garden Girl Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Well there was certainly plenty of excitement last night.... BYU lady Cougars soccer team beat Santa Clara for the first time ever... by a score of 5 - 2...What a game! Such action! 5 goals by BYU... Ashley Hatch made 3 of the 5 if I'm not mistaken... this makes a winning streak of 10 games for BYU. This is a very special team that has melded into a force to be reckoned with, and we lead the WCC. Additionally, the Women's volleyball team played Loyola Marymount and shut them out 3 - 0. The challenge is to our BYU Cougars football team... They have lost 3 in a row... something they haven't done in years... tonight they play Boise State in a must win game for the sake of team morale, and to have any chance of a decent season. Televised nationally at 6:00 PM (PDT) on ESPN... Go Cougars!! GG 1
Garden Girl Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Aaaaarrrggghhhh.... No one is a bigger BYU Cougar football fan that I am... but... I don't know, my loyalty is true blue, but my enthusiasm has suffered mightily... I mean, how do I get enthused over the Keystone Cops?!! The strange thing is the Cougars put up a score of 30 points... now one would think that was a pretty decent score... but Boise State put up 55 points, winning the game 55 to 30... I wonder where that team went that was 4-0 at the first part of the season... only now to lose 4 games in a row. Coach M has some real work to do... in spite of the several really good plays made by BYU tonight... including a running interception for a touchdown... To be fair, injuries have taken most of the first string... tonight was the first night we had 3 of our top players return. GG

Just thought that might take your mind off for a little bit. Also for selfish reasons, I would really like to have a favorite professional football team to root for. It seems everyone has one or almost and I'm feeling very boring not to have my own. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards maybe Denver Broncos. Maybe someone could start a thread because I don't want to derail. Or is that as bad as having a political thread, lol. Edited October 25, 2014 by Tacenda

Hello Tacenda...When I lived in So Calif, the Los Angeles Rams was "my" team... I don't even remember which city they are in now, not L.A. though...Then I moved to San Francisco and became a rabid 49er Faithful in the glory years of Joe Montana... Since I retired here 24 years ago, I haven't had a team, but my loyalties are still to the 49ers. They went through some lean years, but seem to be doing much better lately...My serious rah-rah rooting belongs to BYU these days, all of their team sports... GG 1
Garden Girl Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) And the Lady Cougars continue their winning ways.... Women's Volleyball -- today they played Pepperdine, who was playing surprisingly well in view of their standing in the WCC at this time... but BYU persevered and won the match 3 sets to 1. An exciting game... 25 to 10... 20 to 25... 25 to 20... and 25 to 17... Then this evening on South Field, the Women's Soccer Team won their 11th game in a row... playing San Francisco. After a very ho-hum first half with 0 scoring for either team, BYU came alive in the 2nd and scored 3 goals to 0 for SF, maintaining their average of 3 goals per game. Ashley Hatch made a goal to continue her scoring streak to 7 games with a goal. This is the last home game for this season... the next three games will be on the road. The women do it right yet again... GG Edited October 26, 2014 by Garden Girl 2
Garden Girl Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) I posted at half time... don't see it... must have pushed a wrong button... Anyway, I was frustrated with the team at first... at the half they were tied at 7 each (but BYU should have been ahead by at least one touchdown... but their silly personal fouls lost them valuable yardage and field position... plus others gave yardage to Middle Tennessee.Anyway, after the half they came out and played more like the old team... I saw enthusiasm, confidence, and determination... which paid off with a 27 - 7 victory... finally!! The defense did a great job and the offense had some really big plays... all in all BYU looked almost like their old selves. Stewart still needs to feel more confident in making short runs for first downs when the opportunity presents itself... but this is his first win, and that will give him confidence. This was not a walk in the park as MT played well... Whew! Way to go Cougars! GG EDIT TO ADD: Tonight at 6:00 PM (PDT) on BYU-tv is Men's Basketball... an exibition game against Colorado School of Mines... Edited November 1, 2014 by Garden Girl 2
Damien the Leper Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 I wasn't surprised with BYUs win. Now Utah just needs to beat ASU. 1
Garden Girl Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 The BYU Men's Basketball Team just finished playing an exhibition game against Colorado School of Mines (CSM). You might think... Who?... but they were pretty good with a couple of guys knocking down 3-pointers... but we had more!! I was impressed with our team... in addition to 5 seniors coming back, we have new fellows, several of which can really shoot, including 3-pointers. Final score: BYU 82 - 64.I think this is going to be a very interesting season. Coach Rose has a lot to work with, which is great. Next Saturday night is another exhibition game before regular season begins... GG 2
Damien the Leper Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 And the Utes lose to ASU again! They haven't beaten the scum devils since 1974. How is this possible when they always beat BYU?
Garden Girl Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 The BYU #15 Women's Soccer Team clinched its 3rd straight WCC title on Saturday with a 4 - 0 win over Pacific (its 10th shut out), which earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. They face #12 Pepperdine in Malibu this Saturday in the final game of the regular season. It will be televised on some obscure channel (The W.tv). The #14 Women's Volleyball team returns to Smith Fieldhouse for matches against Saint Mary's and Pacific. BYU is in first place in WCC play (10 - 2).They play Saint Mary's on Thurs 11/6/14 at 6:00 PM, PST on BYU-TV. And on Saturday at 12:00 PM, PST, they take on Pacific... also telecast on BYU-TV. Good luck ladies!! GG 2
Garden Girl Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 This evening the lady Cougars Volleyball team played St.. Mary's and swept them 3 - 0...25 - 15..., 25 - 15..., 25 - 13... Way to go, ladies!! GG 1
Garden Girl Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) One of my favorite things is Saturday morning... BYU-TV always features a sports game BYU has played and rarely shows one that we lost... I love to snuggle down and nap while watching... this morning was the game played against Georgia Tech, I believe at the beginning of 2013 football season. Taysom Hill was quaterback. Then later today the BYU Women's Volleyball team played Pacific... and won in 3 sets...Score: 25 - 21.... 27 - 25.... and 26 -24. It was quite a match as you can tell from the scores. Pacific played hard and BYU had to step up to their challenge, but prevailed in the end. And, this evening BYU Basketball team played the Division Two Seattle Pacific in an exhibition game... it gave BYUY another chance to play a team outside of conference play to sharpen up and come together as a team with all the new players we have. Our announcer kept calling Corbin Kafusci... Bronson Kafusci...While BYU won 75 - 44, SP has beaten five Division 1 teams in the past few years. It gave Coach Rose a chance to evaluate our team... which got away with some sloppy plays that they wouldn't be able to in conference play. All in all it was a fun game. And finally, between BYU's game I was able to watch another game... the NBA New Orleans Pelicans against the San Antonio Spurs... I saw Jimmer Fredette play with the Pelicans... people talk about his lack of defense or that he's too slow, etc., but I watched carefully and he didn't play any worse than other team members, particularly Anthony Davis... Davis missed shots, lost the ball, etc etc just like anyone else, including Fredette... Anyway, it was fun to see Jimmer again. I love Saturdays!! GG Edited November 9, 2014 by Garden Girl 2
Damien the Leper Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 The Utah and Oregon Ducks game was a blood bath. 51-27. I saw that coming considering that prior to this game, Oregon was 8-1. Still disappointing though. 2
