CV75 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 According to the Book of Mormon, reality can only exist upon the everlasting principal of polar opposition in all things.This is one of the things I like about Alma 32. Verse 32 describes that something is real because it is light, which is good because it is discernible. In this case, faith and knowledge are both forms of light, and both are good, and together manifest what is real (reality). Inasmuch as knowledge (experience) replaces faith (assurance) and faith builds upon knowledge, they can be viewed as a kind of functional opposition without the necessity of darkness at all. It begins with a desire to believe the light that shines, whether that light shines out of darkness or not. I suppose, though, that since we are all less than God, we are relatively "darker" than He, but He draws our attention from the light that we have (the desire to believe, our humility, our better attributes, innate spiritual talents, etc.) and does not appeal to our lack of light. The choice to progress is a moral choice, and progress is in opposition to not progressing, or to retrogressing.
