Duncan Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 In Doctrine and Covenants 109:60 it says, "Now these words, O Lord, we have spoken before thee, concerning the revelations and commandments which thou hast given unto us, who are identified with the Gentiles." When you get your Patriarchal Blessing it says which tribe you are from and so I am from Ephraim. I was wondering though based on this verse are we Jew or Gentile? are we Gentile until we accept Christ and then become Jewish or something? I get the idea that Israel was scattered and we and they returning to Christ in the Latter-days via the Book of Mormon and we are in the gathering stage
The Nehor Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I am an Israelite by partial blood and spiritual blessing and a Gentile by culture. When the time of the Gentiles comes in I expect my family's role to diminish on the world stage but to still inherit eternal life. 1

You have provided one good reference, here is another from the title page of the BoM. It says: "Sealed by the hand of Moroni, and hid up unto the Lord, to come forth in due time by way of the Gentile". Joseph Smith and other members of this church (you and me) will be the means by which the Book of Mormon is brought to the world and are called Gentiles. This being said, we must give head to warnings about the Gentiles. For instance, "At that day when the Gentiles shall sin against my gospel, and shall reject the fulness of my gospel, and shall be lifted up in the pride of their hearts above all nations..., behold, saith the Father, I will bring the fulness of my gospel from among them" (3 Ne 16:10) We cannot safely assume that this scripture does not apply to us as members. In fact there is good evidence to suppose it does, for who else could sin against the gospel but those who have received it? 3

stemelbow Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 We're all a huge conglomerate pile of everything. If it's true we're of Ephraim, it's probably true we're of all the other tribes too, somehow. This literal descendants thing doesn't make sense to me.

We can be either a Jew or a Gentile by nationality, by bloodline, or by spirit (a Jew in the covenant, a Gentile without it). We can be a Jew by adoption and a Gentile by being cast out of the covenant. 2
