I was a big fan of Bill O'Reilly's first two books, but when I looked at this recent publication I felt that it was just more of the same nonsense I have read in the past. For example...1. He states as historical fact the killing of innocents in Bethlehem.2. The James was not his actual brother, but rather a live-in playmate.3. Mary Magdala is referred to, again, as a prostitute.4. The Jewish bible (Tanakh) was published 500 years before Jesus' birth.5. He calls Jesus a carpenter, but he was actually referred to as a tekton or skilled laborer.6. The wise men are shown contemporaneous with Jesus as an infant which would have been factually in error.One is better reading the New Testament for itself and leaving this book and the author's hubris alone. Hello drums...I'm always surprised at people... not only here but in general... who find fault with O'Reilly and other Fox News people, saying how biased and misleading Fox News is... Without this becoming political, just let me say that I regularly watch several news channels, including Fox News. I'm baffled because FNS commentators, including O'Reilly, always have an opposing view represented by well-known individuals as a counterpoint to their conservative narrative.I never took him as being purposely dishonest... In his books he always maintains that he thoroughly searches resources... So if Killing Jesus is not accurate, what of his other two... Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy... GG

That's like saying MSNBC isn't biased. I am surprised at anybody that wouldn't consider O'Reilly and Fox News biased. You admitted in your post that they have a conservative narrative. Isn't that a conservative bias? I don't know if he is being purposefully dishonest either, but a strong bias on either side can be blinding. GGThat causes me wonder as well. I am fairly versed in Lincoln and while I didn't find anything amiss I did find the book a nice airy narrative not often found in historical books. It reminded me of Irving Stone's books.

FWIW, his books about Lincoln's death ("Killing Lincoln") and Kennedy's death ("Killing Kennedy") were relatively free of any political bent, and read more as a play-by-play of what happened. GGI didn't say anything about Fox news being biased, or about O'Reilly being intentionally deceitful. I believe he is a cog in a propaganda wheel that controls political discourse in the United States. Everything is portrayed in terms of left/right/center or liberal/conservative or R/D.
