One at a time.   That doesn't mean we can't make one after another.

If I can only have one at a time then how am I supposed to recreate Star Wars? Answer me that......

You can't they use beams to travel, "Beam me up Scotti...."   But won't it be cool to travel down beams of light like Moroni?

Ah, yes, back when SNL was funny.

Either that or back when I was younger and more easily amused and nostalgia adds to the pleasure of viewing. But mostly because SNL sucks now.

That's Star Trek not Star Wars lol

Uh duh, that is why he can't recreate Star Wars...my goodness do we have to explain everything?

Anybody can recreate Star Wars.  All we have to do is what George Lucas did, again.

Who says Jesus has a planet of his own? Show me the scripture.

Actually, his role is slightly different: consider this quote by Benjamin Johnson concerning certain teachings that Joseph shared with him:

And how shall I write to your understanding even the little I may have retained in memory? You will not forget that the march in science through the last seventy years has in many things reversed the world's thought, changed its modes and almost its face, and is fast exploding the dogmas of outside theology. Well, the keys to all this knowledge were first committed to the Prophet Joseph, as a part of the gospel, for the world's benefit, for all of which he was derided. He was the first in this age to teach "substantialism", the eternity of matter, that no part or particle of the great universe could become annihilated or destroyed; that light and life and spirit were one; that all light and heat are the "Glory of God", which is his power, that fills the "immensity of space", and is the life of all things, and permeates with latent life, and heat, every particle of which all worlds are composed; that light or spirit, and matter, are the two first great primary principles of the universe, or of Being; that they are self-existent, co-existent, indestructible, and eternal, and from these two elements both our spirits and our bodies were formulated, and he gave us to understand that there were twelve kingdoms, or planets, revolving around our solar system, to which the Lord gave an equal division of His time or ministry and that now was His time to again visit the earth. He taught that all systems of worlds were in revolution, the lesser around the greater.  He taught that all the animal kingdoms would be resurrected, and made us understand that they would remain in the dominion of those who, with creative power, reach out for dominion, through the power of eternal lives. He taught us that the saints would fill the great West, and through Mexico, Central and South America we would do a great work for the redemption of the remnant of Jacob. Of what he taught us relating to the Kingdom of God, as it would become organized upon the earth through "all nations learning war no more", and all adopting the God-given constitution of the United States as a Palladium of Liberty and Equal Rights. (Benjamin F. Johnson, Letter to George F. Gibbs, 1903)

The key part being that this creative cycle that includes our earth is potentially part of a larger creation. Now couple this with this statement:

He, (Adam) is the Father of the human family & presides over the Spirits of all men, & all that have had the Keys must stand before him in this great Council. This may take place before some of us leave this stage of action. The Son of Man stands before him & there is given him glory & dominion.--Adam delivers up his Stewardship to Christ, that which was delivered to him as holding the Keys of the Universe, but retains his standing as head of the human family. (Words of Joseph Smith, Willard Richards Pocket Companion (probably copied in part from notes of John Taylor), for July 1839))

If you are quick, you may note that the Benjamin Johnson quote is actually the essence of the D & C 88, kingdoms and each has a visit in it's hour verses.

Thus one might contemplate that the role of an Adam is concerning the one kingdom over which he is the presiding priesthood leader. That is the kingdom he assisted in the creation of and the Joseph Smith quote above brings Adam to the point of turning his stewardship over to Christ.  However, the Benjamin Johnson quote coupled with the D & C 88:46-81 section brings in the possibility, though a teensy weensy bit speculative, that a complete creation event entails the creation of a set number of kingdoms.  Christ then, as is consistent with LDS doctrine, becomes the Savior for multiple creations.  Thus if we follow the pattern that Adam turns his stewardship to Christ then we may conjecture that each of the other creations under Christ's jurisdiction, over which the keys of the universe of his involvement grant authority, all of any other worlds that may be a part of that universe are also delivered to Christ by the respective Adam's that represent the priesthood leaders of each individual kingdom.

Adam Holds the Keys of Presidency. This, then, is the nature of the Priesthood; every man holding the Presidency of his dispensation, and one man holding the Presidency of them all, even Adam; and Adam receiving his Presidency and authority from the Lord, but cannot receive a fullness until Christ shall present the Kingdom to the Father, which shall be at the end of the last dispensation.” (Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp 169.)

Finally, what does Christ do when all has been delivered up to him? According to the King Follet Discourse:

What is it? (To be a joint heir with Christ) It is to inherit the same glory, the same power, and the same exaltation until you ascend the throne of eternal power the same as those who are gone before. What did Jesus do? Why, I do the things I saw my Father do when worlds came rolling into existence. I saw my Father work out his kingdom with fear and trembling, and I must do the same; and when I get my kingdom I shall present it to my Father so that he obtains kingdom upon kingdom, and it will exalt his glory. And so Jesus treads in his tracks to inherit what God did before. (Joseph Smith , King Follet Discourse.)

I believe the key is to not think in terms of planets as that is an inadequate specification. If we think in terms of kingdoms, many of the quotes and scriptures that relate to this subject are more readily comprehended. Ones kingdom may be a portion of a planet. It may be an entire planet, or it may be, as God the Fathers, worlds without number. Nonetheless each is but one kingdom regardless of the real estate involved.

Now since we have reached so far out on a limb with my last bit here is one more just for the sheer joy of tweaking the speculator nose in all of us...

By virtue of the Benjamin Johnson quote in the previous post we might could say that a creative cycle may entail 12 planets and there is good symbolic cause for this reasoning.

Phillo Dibble held an image that he claimed was given him by Joseph Smith.  I have attached the image as it has been preserved.(click to enlarge)  However, it suggests something about what other factors might be a consideration in a creative event.  I'll not comment for now and if it is par for the course I suspect no one else will either...however, I will post the image in the event it sparks a thought or two.  I will add that the center orb was considered the orb on which we currently dwell at this time.

The concept or teaching of Theosis, deification, or Exaltation is common among the majority of the Christian world. I have no problem with the teaching that we are joint heirs with Christ or that our purpose is to become like our Father in Heaven. What I reject is the phrases like we get our own planet. This is a caricature of exaltation and the entire concept of salvation. The doctrine of exaltation encompasses the teachings of Theosis and deification.

Maybe many people here are too timid to believe the King Follett Discourse IS DOCTRINAL even if it is not part of the standard works, but I love it and KNOW IT IS TRUE. We are the literal offspring of God and we are Gods (big G) in embyo. I do not care what some scholar or PR director thinks, this doctrine has been taught consistently in the Church since 1844 and I know the Prophet Joseph was inspired when he boldly declared this doctrine. I first noticed it as a youth the first time I read the D&C and the Pearl of Great Price and anyone who does not accept it is deluding themselves if they thing they are LDS and still deny it. It is the most beautiful doctrine of Mormonism and I will never disbeleive it no matter how unpopular it is among the gentiles and so-called Christians or faithless Mormons. I am not ashamed of it and consider it THE CORE DOCTRINE OF THE RESTORATION. If not then why did God curse us by sending us to this miserable existance? What is the purpose of this life? Why the testing or probation of this life? I had a lady ask me why did God send us (who were spirits) to this earth just to become angels if we were already angels in heaven? WHY INDEED? Why the risk? Why not banish Lucifer from the Garden? Why have a fall in the first place? If we were just to go back to live in His presence why leave in the first place? I have believed and taught this doctrine for over 30 years, on my Mission, in countless classes both Gospel Doctrine, Priesthood, Young Mens, Primary, and even Gospel Essentials class! How could anybody deny it? As for our own planet...this expression is an Anti-Mormon construct used to belittle and snear at a doctrine that they never could and never will understand. God the Father is a glorified and exalted MAN! Man of holiness! We are His children, we inherit His divine nature. It was Satan who denied this ability in us all from the beginning! Why he boasted that one soul would not be lost! But saved, saved for what? To play a harp and praise the Lord for eternity? He has tried to degrade us and undermine us from the beginning. We have countless witnesses from prophets and apostles both ancient and current who have taught this doctrine the doctrine of exaltation or godhood. Are those who deny this implying that all of these great servants of the Lord were wrong... were apostate? NO I say! I cannot say in stronger terms that this is the defining doctrine of the Church, remove it and you have destroyed the Church... it is no better than apostate Christianity.

Stands, cheers & shouts!!!

Cannot give enough rep points for this!!!

The Church disagrees with you.

Not every statement made by a Church leader, past or present, necessarily constitutes doctrine. A single statement made by a single leader on a single occasion often represents a personal, though well-considered, opinion, but is not meant to be officially binding for the whole Church. With divine inspiration, the First Presidency (the prophet and his two counselors) and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (the second-highest governing body of the Church) counsel together to establish doctrine that is consistently proclaimed in official Church publications. This doctrine resides in the four “standard works” of scripture (the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price), official declarations and proclamations, and the Articles of Faith. Isolated statements are often taken out of context, leaving their original meaning distorted.

Why would we believe one such statement refuting the idea of creating your own worlds instead of over 150 years of prophets affirming that we do?

It is sincerely distressing that "doctrine" really has no meaning anymore. If we aren't to become Gods that create worlds, then you've just ripped out one of the most basic understandings of church members up to now. Of course, give it ten more years and we can say that the newsroom statement wasn't doctrine and we never believed that, so it's all good.

The KFD was an sermon run amuck. All I want in the CK is my family, whet ever blessing come, then the come. Ig greater blessings and promises are a side effect from righteous come....that they come. I believe in D&C 132 when we will becomes gods, it out it in the context, "that we will have no en...i.e, Immortal.

You and me both! I want my family in the CK and whether we get a "planet" or not is totally irrelevant to me. I do believe in eternal progression and I don't presume to know what that entails. We have the Gospel to guide us and what ever wonders we experience in the afterlife will be just that....wondrous!

My planet will be a sailor's paradise. No storms, winds 15-20kts, 82*F water, maybe air temp range of 78*-88*F, plenty of islands to visit and lot's of wildlife. Kind of like Florida without the hurricanes. You all can visit any time you like.

You can't have this planet. I already have dibs on it. In fact in the brochure "Pick Your Planet Now While you Have a Chance" put out by the Church we picked ours a long time ago and you obviously picked the same one so we are going to be in a bind unless you want to "co-rule" with us!

Please......this seems so silly to me! :)

I have few qualms about any doctrinal statements in the KFD. However the KFD is not doctrine. Open your Quad, you won't find it there.

The newsroom statement is nothing more than a disclaimer. It does not pinpoint a particular statement by a particular GA is being non doctrinal. It is, in general, correct in its assertions as to what is to be used to test doctrine, however, modern revelation can set aside ancient revelation, or what's a prophet for? Do statements by Paul regarding the place of women in the church hold sway in today's church ? Why not?

I agree that for those who prefer the relative safety of an superficial grasp of foundational doctrinal principles such as we can have all that our Father hath that the King Follet Discourse is not doctrine.

However, for those who wish to find meaning, who seek out the enlightenment of the spirit and follow the guidance of the prophets to seek out knowledge and wisdom and understanding, then for us who seek to add depth and meaning to these foundational principles it becomes and individual doctrine of great worth. I have read it, studied, it and sustain it for my own cannon of doctrinal wisdom.  I think Joseph would approve.
