yootaw Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Are you suggesting that there is no reasonable and general way to determine triteness and meaninglessness, and that such determinations aren't relevant to the issue? If so, then that may explain your seemingly unwitting irony. Thanks, -Wade Englund-Yes, and the fact that this seems foreign to you explains a lot about your posting history. Do you really believe that everything that is important and meaningful to you should be important and meaningful to everyone else? Or the reverse -- that everything that you see as trite ought to be seen as trite by everyone else? That is a pretty certain way to go through life never really understanding others positions.
DavidB Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 No women in pants in my ward either, but plenty of BYU dress code violations. 1
Duncan Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 granted you could knock me over with a bees sneeze if anyone even knew about it! I know though that our Stake Presidency knew about it and laughed
yootaw Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) I doubt that men will be elevated to the level of high esteem as women any time soon. Thanks, -Wade Englund-Yeah, men are so base and non-spiritual that they need the priesthood to catch up to the women, in whom spirituality comes naturally. I find that idea incredibly offensive, and false. Edited December 16, 2012 by yootaw
bluebell Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 One woman wore pants today (the two that usually do weren't there) but she's from a different ward so i have no idea if she usually does or not. I know that the other sisters in RS seemed to know her very well, that she's an older lady (in her 50s or early 60s) and that no one batted an eye about it.
Popular Post mercyngrace Posted December 16, 2012 Popular Post Posted December 16, 2012 I wore black yoga pants and a purple pajama top in solidarity with my 7 year old daughter who was up all night sick.We snuggled together in bed all morning. It was a gathering of females not to be trifled with. 5

juliann Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I asked my bishop if it would bother him if I wore pants to church occasionally and he gave me the most blank "uhhhh" look ever. I explained the significance of "pants day" and asked again if it would bother him and he just said, well it will bother somebody....and laughed. I told him I was giving him a heads up because I was going to wear pants to church on occasion so I can honesty say it isn't an issue. He couldn't have shown more disinterest if he yawned. 3
Popular Post Pahoran Posted December 17, 2012 Popular Post Posted December 17, 2012 Here's the thing: there's nothing wrong with women wearing trousers to Church. We go to Church to worship the Lord "in spirit and in truth," to renew our sacred covenants, and to fellowship with the Saints. In doing so, we dress in our best (if we have the opportunity to do so) because our Church services are a formal, not a casual gathering. While some people may be taking it as an opportunity to flaunt their latest hideously expensive designer creations, most of us wear our "Sunday best" as a way of signifying: I am coming into the presence of the Lord. He's a whole lot more important than me, so I'm dressing up for the occasion, just to show how seriously I take this. If we felt really casual about it, we could just slop in there in jeans and sandals and sporting a three-day growth; but we usually don't.I say "usually" because there may be times when that's the best we can do, for whatever reason; and while the best we can do, however good, is never really good enough, the best we can do, however imperfect, is always acceptable to the Lord. Because He alone knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts. The problem isn't if any sisters want to wear trousers to Church; if that's the smartest clothes they have, then I'd say that's what they should wear. The problem is that some people think that Sacrament meeting is the appropriate place for them to "protest" their cause du jour. And that's where it falls flat. The Church members they attend with will simply not get it. They are there, as I said, to worship the Lord "in spirit and in truth," to renew sacred covenants, and to fellowship with the Saints, not to get worked up about what anyone is wearing.Regards,Pahoran 6

I don't attend church to make any point other than that I'm trying to follow Christ (a point I make only for myself). Using those few hours a week I set aside for communal worship with my fellow congregants for any type of conspicuous activism would be a distracting waste of time for me. I'm afraid I would be thinking about me and my cause instead of Him and His. Edited December 17, 2012 by mercyngrace 5

canard78 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 They addressed that; men that want to show solidarity for the "cause" should wear a purple shirt, tie, or ribbon. Purple being the color of the suferage movement.Oops. I wore a purple tie today, entirely unintentionally. I wonder if those 'in the know' paid attention. Actually, I doubt any of our branch were 'in the know.'
Nominee Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) I honestly don't know if any women in my ward wore pants today, I didn't see any that I remember. I wore a brown skirt and Bogs. I'm not sure what that says!Edit to add: it probably says something like "She lives in Oregon." ;D Edited December 17, 2012 by Nominee 1

Stargazer Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 For peat's sake! Do I really have to trot out all the awful puns? No, you could have just left it to me. Showing off, are you?On the other hand, I was serious about what "Bogs" are.
JeremyOrbe-Smith Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 ... the question is, did Jeremy carry out his threatened Moroni impression?Jeremy did not, citing the aforementioned inclement weather. In Naomi's defense, it has been documented that Bogs shoes have been used since ancient times (ca. 2002) as symbols of wading through the mud of sin in this Librul town, thus making them perfectly appropriate. The new question is whether or not, in the Millennium, we'll show our respect for God via Adamitism, like that old gymnosophist Isaiah. 2
