Carborendum Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Fry sauce is an abomination. Just sayin'Hey! You're not allowed to spout of anti-Mormon biggotry here. 1
Carborendum Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I found it interesting to note the low smoking rates. Yes, you'd think that a state dominated by Mormons would have a low rate. But an odd quirk I found in my travels in Utah was with regard to smoking.Anywhere else, there are a dozen reasons people begin to smoke. But in Utah, the huge majority of smokers smoke for one reason and one reason only--to make a public statement that they are not Mormons or that they are Jack-Mormons. One gal I knew moved to Utah for a couple years and came up with the excuse that she had to smoke because it offset some of the fumes from a nearby racetrack. Apparently, that is a common excuse. I'm not buying it.
BlueDreams Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Well, neither do I, and I didn't, but she acted as if the Mormons were out to get her or something, as opposed to just merely refusing to patronize her establishment. It is my understanding that many places of alcohol consumption do just fine regardless of the Mormons. Which is why I thought her comments to be a bit strange -- unless her business was breaking the laws pertaining to the management of such businesses. Not sure what she meant. There are plenty of nightclubs in SLC...tons of dancing. Plenty of my friends (all mormon and myself included) go to them. So I'm not sure how I'd judge it or what the problem was to her. From what I've seen with dance studios is that it's a pretty hard market to go into period. Plenty close down, move location, or change to meet up to demand or their target group. As for utah = utopia. I'm still not sold on the state and I've lived here for about 4 years for school (2 in my childhood). Don't mind it either, it's not on my blacklist of states I'd never live in (again). But it's not on my high list and there's definitely places I would never live in UT (basically anywhere too rural and south in UT, I stick out like a sore thumb). My main reasons are definitely cultural. Where I'd want to end up in UT are extremely homogenous, which is not a plus in my book. I prefer diversity and I would want my children to also grow up with diverse experiences (and frankly a place where they would not be among the rare minority children of the school/community). But I also have a creeping feeling I'll be living here for a while. So I'm making some contingency plans, just in case.If I had it my way, i'd be rich enough to afford living comfortably in Hawaii. That's my utopia. Ah well, you get what you get and make the best of it. I'll probably enjoy living in UT, I have so far. But I wouldn't go so far as to call it a utopic experience. With luv,BD 2
Scott Lloyd Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Well what do you expect? Arctic Circle! You just can't take the Utah out of the Utah Mormon can you?I know Arctic Circle claims to have invented it, but my vote for fry sauce heaven goes to the burger joint in Kamas, Utah. My son and I stopped there a couple of weeks ago on our way home from Scout camp. I needn't have asked the cashier for fry sauce, because, as I was promptly informed, they have big, full squeeze bottles of the stuff at every table. And plenty of little plastic, lidded cups so you can take some for the road. 1
Scott Lloyd Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) 1. You can't simply do any amount of ketchup and mayonnaise you wish as this is heretical. It's roughly 2 parts mayo with 1 part ketchup, without huge variance. You, my friend, are a fry sauce Pharisee. But I can forgive any fry sauce enthusiast. For my part, I never measure, just squirt the ketchup into the mayo until the color looks about right. It probably works out to about the proportion you specify. It's hard to screw it up, because you can always add more of one or the other until you get it right. Edited August 13, 2012 by Scott Lloyd

Speaking of the McDonald's in SL, when we went to the City Creek a guy headed north on Main Street approached me for money to "get a hamburger from McDonald's". I said I didn't have any (which I didn't) but wish I would have called him out on not only being quite a distance from McDonald's, but to also be headed the opposite direction. You, my friend, are a fry sauce Pharisee.
