KevinG Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I guess my question is "should I feel obligated to go over to the Great and Spacious and defend my brothers and sisters from the mocking and derision coming therefrom, or shall I heed Lehi's warning - 'for as many as heeded [the scorners and mockers in the G&S] fell away'?"Personally, I find MDB to be too toxic even to read, much less participate in.And I completely agree that the blessings of the Lord ought to be poured out upon the heads of his righteous servants, be they GAs, scholars, or the average Joe....and this is where I should probably butt out not really knowing of what I speak. I gave up on MDB over five years ago. Never went back after defending myself (DaddyG) from attacks that I must be neglecting my family to post on line. Ifind it too contentious to really enjoy engaging. So like Mercyngrace I would refrain from defending people there. I would also refrain from visiting and adding legitimacy to that kind of behavior.
CASteinman Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) Personally, I find MDB to be too toxic even to read, much less participate in.Ahhh.. That board holds no appeal to me. It is full of liars, sorcerers, adulterers, whoremongers, and/or those who love lies and support with joy those who make them. I feel like being there is like volunteering to put my face in raw sewage. Which... for a good cause, I might do. But I would need a pretty good reason. I don't think anyone needs to go there to defend the Kingdom of God -- for the Kingdom of God is not there for anyone to attack. The apostates may shout out at the Wedding Feast, but no one needs to go outside the city wall to find out what the evil rabble are upset about. They will bite at the air, growling and gnashing their teeth with a frightening sound but, thank God, they have no power unless we surrender ourselves to them. Edited May 17, 2012 by CASteinman
Avatar4321 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Especially by a critic. Critics seem to find mercy and grace toward one another. It is also perfectly okay to gang up on a faithful member, defend of the lds faith, or apologist. However, when the faithful member, defender of the lds faith or apologist go on the offensive, well, they are not living the gospel or by their defense, they are hurting the lds church. In other words, the faitful, the defender and the apologist must turn the other cheek.Well, if we are disciples of Jesus Christ, we should be turning the other cheek.Of course, I dont think that has anything to do with discussions on a message board. 1
Yirgacheffe Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 This just leaves a person dizzy. On a thread about being treated badly, one where a defense against charges is presented, what happens? You guys start ripping up and, taking to task (by the way why are qualified to do this?) one of the nicest people here, for no reason at all. What is with all this bashing of Mercyngrace???? 2
why me Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 This just leaves a person dizzy. On a thread about being treated badly, one where a defense against charges is presented, what happens? You guys start ripping up and, taking to task (by the way why are qualified to do this?) one of the nicest people here, for no reason at all. What is with all this bashing of Mercyngrace????I think that defenders of the faith are allowed to disagree with someone without it being called bashing. I think that we need to define bashing. I am disagreeing with mercyngrace's premise. Nothing more. Is she a nice person? Probably. But that has nothing to do with whether I agree or disagree with her. And there is no comparison between the way daniel has been treated and mercyngrace. People are allowed to have a disagreement with mercyngrace. To disagree is not bashing. 1
why me Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Well, if we are disciples of Jesus Christ, we should be turning the other cheek. So, if someone is spreading rumors about someone on the internet, we should just turn the other other cheek and say...oh um...? Is that what it means to turn the other cheek?Where would the early saints be if they just allowed themselves to be killed? Did they have the right to defend their families?
Calm Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I don't believe it. Having nearly 25,000 posts to your credit isn't the way of putting yourself in the ignore list. Yes, but people are generally very nice to me or are neutral. If I was being verbally abused instead, I would be out of here so fast. I see no reason to subject myself to that just for attention. Never have.
Scott Lloyd Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 This seems as good a place as any to register my on-going amazement:It strikes me as something right out of The Twilight Zone to watch folks over at the Stalker/Kishkumen/Xander board incessantly fretting, lamenting, and tut-tutting about the supposedly bad tone at FAIR and the Maxwell Institute. They regularly mistreat the handful of believing LDS who (for reasons that I honestly can't fathom) persist in posting there, ...And a few who don't.I haven't posted there in years -- I can't abide the toxicity -- yet in a Google search today, I found that I'm the subject of a couple of particularly nasty threads that have been started this month alone.Of course this more than pales in comparison to what has been inflicted upon you, but I can relate.

It is one of the benefits of being an exmember. 1

What is with all this bashing of Mercyngrace????Bashing? Is there no end to the abuse I have heaped upon this defenseless woman. Woe.C'mon folks - I simply took issue with scolding apologists for being defensive on occasion while the critics go on gleefully ripping the Saints a new one at every opportunity. I am still puzzled as to why someone would go to some of these more virulent sites and legitimize them with a response? 2
