When God speaks to me, he sounds a lot like Garrison Keillor, host of the radio show “A Prairie Home Companion." In other words, he’s engaging, often very funny, and almost always an absolute joy to be around. Duncan Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 When I was a youth of some age...I lost my wallet and I needed it and the contents thereof so I knelt down and prayed and I heard a whisper that as the scriptures say pierced me saying that it was in the washroom and viola! it was. I knew then that God speaks in my own Canadian language because if he had said "bathroom" I would have gone to the room with the tub but it wouldn't have been there! so I was happy

Anyway, occasionally, the High Council Rep and I have been known occasionally to exchange pleasantries in Spanish. One time, the 1st Counselor said it always makes him nervous when people start talking around him in a language he doesn't know, and I said, "Don't worry, Brother G. It's no different than when you start speaking Canadian to someone ..." [/THREADJACK OFF] 1
TAO Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Could you give more on "putting us in situations that we have to figure out"?How did the Lord communicate in that way in the BOM?The Brother of Jared asking the Lord to touch the stones is a good example.Sometimes, the Lord expects us to choose a path, and ask for his assistance (not always mind you). A good example I can think of today is when you are dating people or getting married. Sometimes, the Lord expects us to choose the person (and I don't think it's this way for all people, but it seems this way to me), and then gives a yes or no to what we have chosen.There's probably a few more examples I'm missing in there, of course, but, that's one thing =).

This whole situation opened up an opportunity to teach the king and for spreading the Gospel.

There was also the Liahona, and the "stones," also called the "interpreters". There was also the "voice of thunder," and the voice of "perfect mildness," and a few more.

Do you have any particular experience that you can talk about?Yes, I was praying mightly for these squalls to go away during the 1100 miles sail from Bora Bora to Tutuila. (hey it worked before) We tacked 100 miles either side of the squall line and still couldn't ge away from them. Heavenly Father yelled at me NO! These things must needs be! Don't worry I will keep you safe. I was so stunned I woke my wife up on her sleep period and told her God yelled at me.About 5 months later I figured out why he couldn't answer my prayer. The island of Tutuila depends on the squalls for water.

I pretty much 100 percent know that if someone arrives in my path, whatever the length of time, then I need to pay attention and learn on one level or another. Sometimes it has nothing to do with what they are actually saying. Especially if I meet someone I "don't like". The number of people in my life that I "don't like" has been maybe, 5, so if they show up, I know it means something I have to learn in order to like them or value them.
