Do we do proxy work for children that died before the age of accountability? We were studying D&C 29 today and the question came up. I couldn't answer it.

Sorry for the dyslexic typing. It happens more than I like.

Not if we have a death date prior to age of 8.

Family Search probably has this info online. I am thinking the manual for the Family History Sunday School class is likely online as well and this should have in it.....just in case you want to research it more on your own.

No we do not perform the baptism because they are not old enough. It is taught, but not official doctrine, that these children will be raised during the millennium and given the opportunity to receive the ordinances at that time.

A child that dies before the age of accountability does not need baptism; the Atonement is sufficient for their exaltation without any need for these mortal ordinances.

Thanks! I like to do research but we are somewhat limited to our power availability and GB remaing for the month. Any links you can supply would be greatly appreciated.

So, to summarize, children (under 8 ) can be sealed but don't need baptisim. What about Endowment?

No other ordinances can take place until baptism is done, so nothing beyond being sealed as a child to parents.

    • Children who are born after their mother has been sealed to a husband are born in the covenant. They do not need to receive the ordinance of sealing to parents.

    • Temple ordinances are not performed for stillborn children. However, a child who lived even briefly after birth should be sealed to his or her parents. In some countries, particularly in Europe, children who died shortly after birth were often recorded as stillborn. Children listed as stillborn on records from these countries may be sealed to their parents. The FamilySearch Internet site will let you know if a sealing ordinance needs to be performed for a child who was recorded as stillborn. You should record all births, indicating any stillborn children.

    • No baptism or endowment is performed for a child who died before the age of eight. Only sealings to parents are performed for such children. If the child was sealed to parents while he or she was living or if the child was born in the covenant, no vicarious ordinances are performed.

There is no need, they were sinless and already received their reward. We do "seal".
