The city where it was to be located more-or-less demanded that they get their angel. I believe (but cannot confirm, and the memory is really vague) that they had to raise the height limit to accommodate their angel, but get him they did.Lehi 1

It was not "the city" but a reporter that complained. The church finally decided to have Moroni, but the decision had nothing to do with the reporter, although she claimed credit for it. It's interesting how a story grows over the years.Speaking of the Atlanta temple, I had my brother come with me to the dedication. He is not a member and was very involved in meditation. As we crossed the road to get to the temple, he stopped suddenly as he look up at the temple."I have seen this building during my meditation. I saw shafts of light going between it and the sky." That someone serving at the temple received a call from a pilot asking if someone had neglected to turn on the light on top of the temple, or if the light had simply gone out and not been noticed yet. He then explained that was a pilot who lived in the area, and would use the statue as a means of visably identifying exactly where he was at. Not certain if it was a commercial flier, or just a casual occupant, but sure enough, someone had gone wrong with the timer, or it had simply been forgotten to be turned on somehow that evening. From what I've heard, the Monticello Utah Temple was the only one they tried it on, but it turned out you couldn't see the statue on cloudy days, so they went gold and now they all are.(I don't know who this is in the picture. Apparently it is less costly to replace a statue damaged by lightning than to cope with damage from a lightning-caused fire.
