LifeOnaPlate Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 In some ways, LDS missionaries are 'Street Preachers' too.Sure. Just not your typical dumb-sign-holding scream-at-other-religionists sort of street preachers.
Jason Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I don't think Mitchell was ever insane. I don't think he's particularly religious either. Religion seems to be a tool he tries to use to manipulate others, not something he actually believes. The penalty he should get is death, only he also should have gotten it years ago. The penalty he probably will get is life imprisonment.
Deborah Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Well it did take them 9 months just to find her / him. It's been 8 years!

Besides in prison away from others is where he needs to be, the real punishment will be by a very just God who hinted to what it it will be like for those who hurt children.
USU78 Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 Tragic end to a more tragic affair. No tragedy here so far as I can see.Unless you are paraphrasing Poe's Conqueror Worm.
Calm Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 No tragedy here so far as I can see.I see a tragedy here as I would see the fall of Lucifer as a tragedy, no matter how evil an individual is, he was a child of God and I would assume that God mourns his loss even as he is angered by the abuse of other of his children. There is no sign of repentance or sense of guilt in Mitchell, all his efforts seem pointed toward avoiding responsibility for his crimes, he's locked in a prison of his own making as well as a prison of man's...that is a tragedy to me as well even though he deserves every moment of hell he will get for what he has done.
Kenngo1969 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but the sense of closure in this case should be tempered by the virtual certainty of an appeal. Should the verdict be overturned on the basis of a claim that Mitchell could never get a fair trial in Utah? Probably not, but would that claim at least pass the smell test? P.S.: 3,100 posts! Woo-whoo!
OnHech Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I don't think he's particularly religious either. Religion seems to be a tool he tries to use to manipulate others, not something he actually believes. Agreed, well said! I think a lot of people do this. "Religion is good when it is convenient and beneficial you".
Glenn101 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Well they have found Brian Mitchell guilty at last. Does anyone here think he was insane? I never believed it. (and)What do you think his punishment should be? Here is storyAnyone who commits rape, murder, etc. is not"normal" or "in their right mind." The main thing is that most of those people are capable of understanding right from wrong and capable of making voluntary choices to commit those acts. I believe that Mitchell falls into that category.Glenn
urroner Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I hope I'm not wicked for hating this guy and feeling he deserves to be put to death. Well, I guess that means I'm a little wicked. I'm sure the prophet would suggest I pray about this and learn to feel sorry for him instead. What a monster, though. Geze.Forgiving somebody doesn't mean that you have to forget what they have done and it also doesn't mean that you have to trust them and it sure doesn't mean that you have to hope they escape the consequences of their actions.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Our boys not crazy, it seems.Edit...I should have read more.
