They appear human, but they appear like black, black and generally move very quickly. I have a good friend who saw one at the foot of his bed shortly before his mission. The first time there were no details; it was just a black image against the ambient darkness. The second time he saw details, such as the eyes and teeth. The third time he and his roommate both saw it and it appeared as a man with a cane and hat. It smiled wickedly at him, but said nothing. The two were up for the rest of the night with the lights on.During this fellow's mission, this spirit apparently followed him and appeared to him twice during his two years. After that, he saw nothing but felt an evil presence. It finally stopped and he's never heard or seen anything since. His wife said she felt the presence once when they were first married, but that she never saw anything. No problems since then."Shadow People" are freaky and they often have a malevolence about them.That's called hypnagogic hallucination. I actually have that problem and "see" such beings and "feel" their evil presence several times a month. In my case it's associated with sleep paralysis too. So, I wake up, my eyes are open, I can visualize my surroundings, and I am conscious of my surroundings, however, I am unable to move or speak.Brade, What Consig is describing is not the same thing as experiencing "Hypnogogia". I've never experienced either personally but know people who've experienced both. Those who saw shadow people were not asleep. Not everyone has the ability to see shadow people either. Hypnogagia seems much more common.

And if you haven't had one then you probably know someone who has or know someone who knows someone who has, etc.Serious question: what do you think makes you so special that would cause Satan, or one of his minions, to reveal himself to you? Don't you think they have bigger fish to fry? Really, what's the point?I will admit to owning a skeptical mind and I doubt the authenticity of these devil visitations including the exorcisms. Nothing personal but I think it's all in your head. You're trying to convince yourself, and others, that you posses a place of importance in God's grand plan, that you are so righteous and worthy to not only warrant the visitations of angels and deceased ancestors but also the encounter of Satan and his league, a visit whose purpose is only to obstruct you in fulfilling your grand special mission, I imagine. Sort of the same kind of people who feel that the reason why they were abducted by aliens was so that they can deliver to the governments of the world a message of universal and interstellar peace. Again nothing personal.

Actually I didn't get to finish my post, I was burning dinner. I saw the creep in 1994 and I don't care to see him again. An Angel of the Lord was doing battle with he who should not be named over my life. I do have to try harder though, I've never been inside a Temple. Do you want to hear about the time an Angel of the Lord drove my truck for over a hundred miles? Or about the time my dead friends sailed the Sea of Cortez with us? The veil is very thin there. I have a great desire to return. My point was that even the least of us count in the War Between Good and Evil. Once you become aware there is no neutral ground.

Again nothing personal.Of course skepticism has its place, and I would deny no one their choice to refuse to believe. I myself have seen no such being as a devil or an angel, and don't expect to, but not because I am a skeptic. If, for the sake of argument, you temporarily grant that LDS theology is true, then it should be clear that one needn't be special in order to experience Satan or one his minions. 1/3 of the host of heaven has got to be considerably more in terms of numbers than the number of humans currently on the planet earth, or at least it's close to the same. So, given that they don't sleep, it seems entirely possible that each of us might very well have one or more "Unguardian Angels" assigned to help us along the path to hell. Some of us may be more sensitive to such things than others, and so expereince that which most others do not. And while I will grant that some who report such experiences may actually seeing illusions created in their own minds, I am certain that some are not.

My companion and I were talking about it on the way home on the bus one night. We got home and when I went to sleep I couldn't get the story out of my head. I layed there for about an hour an a half and couldn't get it out of my head. This question started running through my head: "How could anyone let a demon posses them?" I have the tendency to talk to myself so I guess I said the sentence out loud in kind of a whisper. As soon as I said it, I felt a dark prsence next to my bed away from My companion and I turned and in the dark saw one of the Shadowy ones sitting right next to me. He said... "I'll show you" and I felt him grab my arm. I jumped out of the bed screaming and woke up the whole house. My companian jump up and turned on the light and tried to calm me down. He gave me a blessing of comfort, and after praying for another hour, I was finally able to go to sleep. We promised we wouldn't talk about that kind of stuff anymore.

There are a few moments between rem sleep and wakefulness when the mind is unable to distinguish between dream and reality. A frightening dream can often cause a person to wake during that transitionary period.

I'm familiar with the phenomena you describe, but in the case of my friend, his roommate saw it, too. My friend was able to move and to look over his shoulder and see it. He wouldn't have been able to do this if he were in the hold of sleep paralysis.

Such states of mind very often include a powerful affect such as a sense of evil etc. You definitely did not see Satan. (There would be no reason to think he was "black" either.)
Tarski Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Fantastic story. I'd like to make a couple of comments. Do you remember the story in the Bible where the demons entered the pigs and made them drown? A long time ago, I was told by someone who knew about the occult that sometimes animals end up picking up what was destined for their owners. In other words, they die in your place. When the demons can't get to you either because of the Holy Ghost or your own spirit's strength, they go after that which you love, which is most vulnerable and it's not unusual for it to be a cat or a dog. Demons seem to delight in seeing animal blood. They're probably all over slaughterhouses. Other demons delight in human sacrifice so they're probably all over where these despicable things take place, anywhere in the world.Your 'dream' or 'out of body' experience could be a reflection of what could have been meant to happen to you and maybe your pet's souls were sacrificed for you. The same demon you dreamed of may have gone into the dog that killed your dog. As the Bible states, demons can possess the bodies of animals. Some spirits are attached or condemned to the physical location where events may have taken place. They either part of the 1/3 or possibly disembodied people who lived in that location at one particular point in time and are imprisoned there. Oh brother O-brother.

Kenngo1969 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I've never seen, nor have I felt the presence of, an evil spirit qua spirit. But I think psychiatric diagnoses can be a very effective tool in Satan's toolbox, and I have experienced clinical depression. It's icky!
