DonBradley Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I had a strange experience when I was 19 where I saw Satan (or one of his minions; I didn't card him).I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience. If contention is genuinely of the devil, then I've seen him quite a few times online!I would be very interested in hearing more about your experience, Consiglieri.Don
consiglieri Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 If contention is genuinely of the devil, then I've seen him quite a few times online!I would be very interested in hearing more about your experience, Consiglieri.DonHi,Don!That's pretty much all there is to tell with that experience. There is still the one with the scratching at the door in the middle of the night, but it's pretty long and involved and I've got a bunch of other stuff I need to be doing. How about the ringing in my ears? Some people have already mentioned this aspect of night paralysis, which I did experience several times during my first two years after joining the Church (1978-79). Frequently, it was a harbinger of night paralysis for me, where I could not move, but was quite awake and could move my eyeballs around and see, but could not move. My personal technique for being able to move was to focus all my energy into one finger and try to wiggle the finger; this was like lifting the heaviest weight I could possibly lift, it was so difficult. Then once I had the one finger moving, I would go for two; and then three; and then the whole hand.Once I was able to get the whole hand moving, I would be able through sheer effort to pull my entire body out of it. The closest thing I could liken it to was ripping my body off a huge sheet of fly paper. These experiences had a strong negative feeling to them, of danger and evil, and so I fought them accordingly. I felt like I didn't want to just submit to the paralysis because it seemed that something was pulling my soul out and down while it was happening. I remember wondering if I would just go to sleep if I relaxed and went with it, but I also knew that if it was something other than sleep awaiting me, I didn't want to go there.Once the ringing in my ears came to me while lying in bed, but it did not result in paralysis. Instead, the ringing slowly grew louder and louder. To my surprise it grew so loud it was a roaring in my ears that became painful, like standing next to a big jet engine.I sat up in bed with my hands over my ears, but the hands on my ears did nothing to diminish the sound.I prayed that whatever it was would stop, and remember being careful to invoke the name of the Savior as I had been taught. The noise began to lessen, then suddenly shot up even louder than it had been before. I remember thinking my head would explode, and wondering why my prayer wasn't working.I prayed again to rebuke whatever this was; and the sound slowly went away, gradually diminishing over the course of about 30-seconds until it was completely gone. Those were strange days. But I also have to add that there were some pretty wonderful manifestations I was experiencing which helped balance things out.All the Best!--Consiglieri
Deborah Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I don't have sleep paralysis but I saw Satan (or someone Satan-like) and several of his minions glaring and gnashing their teeth (I never appreciated what that meant before) standing at the foot of my bed in a bright room as I was waking up. And yes I was awake. I was also alone in the house as my roommates were all gone for Christmas vacation. It was a terrifying experience and I was praying desperately and they finally went away and I was able to get up but didn't want to be alone that night. Fortunately one of my roommates returned that day, the one that spirits did not seem to affect. However, all my other roommates also had experiences with the evil spirits in this house. And I never told any of them about this experience so there was no group hallucination. My son and grandson have seen shadow people, and they were not sleeping. When g-son was a baby his dad was changing his diaper when he felt a great weight on his back and the weight pressed him down on the baby and he had to fight with all his strength against the power of that invisible weight. He was finally able to get up and repel the presence.
