  1. I had never seen this article before. It's excellent.
  2. Here’s what ChatGPT says: ”Archaeology supports that broken clay pipe stems from the Whitney / ashery area exist and were recovered in restoration-era digs (one documented recovery in 2000).” Sources cited: https://website-files-bucket.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/articles/article_pdfs/Thou_Art_the_Man.pdf; and https://www.josephsmithpapers.org/paper-summary/revelation-27-february-1833-dc-89?utm_source=chatgpt.com
  3. I get it. Apologies for triggering.
  4. Which type of divine parenting do you want? I think there are times when I wish He was more of a helicopter, but He isn’t. And there are times when I wish He would just stop nagging me, but he won’t.
  5. Scrupulosity Edited to add: I heard a BYU Radio podcast recently about this, and I realized that there were times in my youth when I was very likely dealing with it — without even knowing what it was.
  6. The Lesson Yes, my fretting, frowning child, I could cross the room to you more easily. But I’ve already learned to walk, So I make you come to me. Let go now — there! You see? Oh, remember this simple lesson, child. And when in later years you cry out With tight fists and tears — “Oh, help me, God — please.” — Just listen and you’ll hear a silent voice: “I would, child, I would. But it’s you, not I, who needs to try Godhood.” —The Lesson, by Carol Lynn Pearson, in her book of poetry entitled “Beginnings”
  7. Here: Where did this picture come from? Is it from a Trek experience? Is this supposed to represent the way LDS women dress....currently?
  8. Good to see you again! Hope all is well in Mexico.
  9. It could have been so much worse...there are no words to describe how happy we are to still be alive.
  10. Thank you so much. That just kind of melts my heart. But we are in the healing time now -- and healing time, is sacred time.
  11. Your comment brings Galatians 3 to mind. Life as we (my wife and I) knew it changed in an instant recently when we were hit by a car in a crosswalk. Both of us sustained broken bones and now face surgeries and prospects of a somewhat altered life. The experience has triggered a bit of fear as we look to the future. I think I'm beginning to understand that Life -- all of it -- is a schoolmaster. It wasn't just those unruly Israelites who had to be schooled in a lesser law, before they could move on to the higher law. We are all in school, for the duration. We might think we have learned it all, but we are only scratching the surface. I guess Emerson (or whoever said it) must have been right: It is all about the journey, and not so much the destination.
  12. This past Saturday, two neighbor girls (around 8 years of age) rang our doorbell and pitched home baked chocolate chip cookies and blackberry lemonade. I told them I would purchase both, so I left them while I went to fetch my wallet. I always carry cash, but I discovered that somehow/somewhere I had emptied the cash from my wallet. I reported to the girls that I would need to run to the bank, so if they still had any goods left when I got back, I would become a customer. It shocked me when both of them chimed in: “We also take Venmo” simultaneously flipping up a sign that had one of their mother’s email address written very legibly on it. It made me laugh that 8-yr old’s know more about this technology than I do! I was so impressed, I doubled my order.
  13. My oldest brother who was a bit older by the time we left Wyoming for Oklahoma says “crick” to this day!
  14. My Mom and Dad were born and raised in Northwestern Wyoming, and I think I know what you mean about the general Western accent; however, I think there were a few speech characteristics of both parents’ extended families that were unique; and I can only attribute this to their connection to Utah. A few examples: horse = hars, fork = fark, dare not = daresn’t, hurricane = hurricun. Remembering now the sound of speech at family gatherings, especially the banter between my dad and his brothers, conjures happy feelings. I loved and still love all of these wonderful people.
  15. GardenGirl was my kindred spirit when it came to our shared and unashamed passion for BYU sports — I loved her for it. I have missed her, but I’m happy she is free now from the sufferings of mortality. I’ll think of her as my “angelic” fellow fan whenever I’m sitting in the LES or Marriott Center. Go Cougs! And Go GardenGirl…go joyfully to your happy and well-deserved rest.
  16. Is there some sort of connection to Holden Caufield and “The Catcher In the Rye”?
  17. I have a similarly structured budget: $200 for nieces and nephews, but I always take a look at their gift registry first and try to choose gifts that “fill-up” the amount — sometimes I go a little over. If there isn’t enough left on the registry, I’ll just do a gift card.
  18. “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
  19. I am probably wrong, but it does come across very “AtlanticMike-ish”…
  20. “According to a news release, the church has “more members (17.5 million), missionaries (80,000), congregations (31,670), missions (450) and temples (382) than it has ever had.” There’s that missionary number again: I can’t remember exactly what he predicted, but something tells me Scott Lloyd might have been right about that one.
  21. Das habe ich nicht vorher gewusst! Also, vielen Dank!
  22. Yesterday, I had an hours-long “argument” with Copilot about a regulatory/legal question. The more I dug in, the more it came back with incorrect conclusions. I finally found a document that irrefutably refuted Copilot and it said: “Apologies for the earlier confusion.” Ha! AI needs to learn not to be so certain about everything, at least when its conclusions are not based on reliable/official documents. But on the other hand, Copilot has definitely helped speed my response time for difficult or complex questions.
  23. Ja, sicher! Das bin ich doch! Lieber ein Hamburger als ein Berliner (aka jelly-filled donut!)
  24. I was trying to find his prediction thread about the numbers of missionaries climbing back to a certain level. Not that I want to re-open the debate, but since in fact the numbers of missionaries and converts has been increasing since Covid, I wondered how his prediction is doing. Any idea?
