Orlando, FL, thinking of annexing LDS property into city

I don't have much in the way of an opinion about this, but thought it was interesting.

No mention about why the Church wants it to move under the city, just speculation?  Did I miss it?  Did not the Church explain their request?  If so and it was not referred to, but only the Mormon church wants it easier to develop speculation, got to say that is odd.

And here is the Church’s reason from another report:

Quote

“We are a caring, responsible landowner who works sustainably and gives back to our communities. We see planning as investing in a healthy, prosperous future for Central Florida,” said Rose. “Putting this Deseret Ranch property under a single municipal government will avoid the piecemeal planning of the past.”

The news report indicates that Orange county has more stringent rules than the city of Orlando.

Interesting that Farmland Reserves is an investment arm of the Church. There's Ensign Peak Advisors. How many other arms are there?

It you check out the huntsman’s lawsuit thread, somewhere in there in my posts are two screenshots of two alleged EPA handouts.  One of them has all the arms, hands, and fingers and probably some legs, feet, and toes as well on it.

The reason they are seeking the change (for a part of Deseret Ranch) is that state law changed making it development more difficult effective in a few more months.   The Church wants to develop under the existing rules, when it is ready to do so.   Deseret Ranch has a long and well thought of history of appropriately using natural resources in the area and sponsoring environmental projects  that preserve the area for sound and thoughtful development.  So the City of Orlando and the adjoining counties support what the Church is doing, and the longtime partnership they've had with the Church in responsible development.

And I think it hypocritical in the extreme that Huntsman paid 10% annually until his faithful father (who very well could and would have stricken him from the will if he'd stopped earlier) died and only started this fight (about what he paid so he'd remain in his father's good graces, not really "tithing" in any religious sense)  and then wants to challenge the Church's actions and good intentions.

Sounds like the city of Orlando, needs more developments, if I heard it right because they'd like to get out of only being able to build up, so high rises? Maybe I heard wrong or read into it wrong.

Yes, it sounded like they were running out of space.  Much more expensive to build up.
