Some of the LDS-Themed YouTube Channels I've Found

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I am a YouTube creator, A Yank in Sussex (see my sig). Until recently, I had been largely unaware of the evidently flourishing LDS-related YouTube channels out there. I knew about FAIR's and the Church's, but that was about it. Then I found Ward Radio and started watching some of their videos. I found their format a bit grating (all right, a lot grating), but I persevered a bit because of information I had found interesting. I started to consider making my very own LDS-themed YouTube channel. So, since I didn't know much about what was already out there, I went looking.

My first clue in this was that because I was digging a bit into LDS-themed channels, the YouTube algorithm decided I needed to get many recommendations about LDS videos and channels. This included some anti-LDS channels, too, but whatever. I digress.

I'm just curious if you all know about these, and do you have any comments about the ones you're familiar with. Most of these I've only found in the past few days. Here are the ones I've found so far.

Presented are, in order, the channels name with link, the date it started on YouTube, how many subscribers it has, how many videos it has posted, and its self-reported description (edited for length in some cases). There is no particular order in the list below.

  • Ward Radio - 12 Oct 2020 - 38.5k subs - 1,139 videos - "We delight in Truth.  We Denounce Deception.  We have fun. Check us out at WardRadio.com or on FM98.1 and AM1220 KHTS."

  • Gospel Tangents - 15 Jul 2013 - 8.66k subs - 1,345 videos - "Here at Gospel Tangents, we explore Mormon History, Science, and Theology.  We don’t shy away from anything:  polygamy, the racial ban, Mountain Meadows Massacre, the Mark Hoffman bombings, Masonry, DNA & the Book of Mormon, multiple First Vision accounts.  It’s all fair game.  If you want us to talk about something, please let us know!"
  • Brother Gabriel Mirah - 26 Jan 2023 - 2.36k subs - 603 videos - "Br. Mirah, is a dedicated individual who has a strong connection to his faith and a deep desire to share the message of peace and the Gospel with the world. Br. Mirah is a returned missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served his mission in the Kenya-Nairobi mission and returning in October 2001. He currently serves as a high councilman in the Nairobi-West Stake, where he brings his leadership and guidance to help strengthen the local congregation."
  • The Words of Christ - 4 Oct 2022 - 14k subs - 412 videos - "The words of Christ, shared through scripture and the teachings of living apostles and prophets, provide the personal revelation essential for guiding us back to Him. As Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Through Christ, we can find peace, healing, and direction."
  • Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ - 18 Jul 2012 - 349k subs - 507 videos - "Did you know that Jesus Christ visited the American continent? Soon after His Crucifixion and Resurrection, He came to the people of ancient America, where he taught His gospel, organized His church, and asked His disciples to keep a record of His ministry among them. He reposts talks by Pres. Nelson (with cute graphics), as well as some of his own messages. Actually, I'm not sure he's LDS. He may have his own gig that re-uses LDS messages.
  • B.O.M. • David Alexander - 19 Jan 2020 - 23.1k subs - 483 videos - "I am David. Raised Catholic, after jumping into the hippy thing during my teenage years and trashing myself,  I became a devout Evangelical Christian at the age of 21, and was for many years. My Evangelical Christian experience was frustrating & often disheartening. I have now become a Latter Day Saint. My Evangelical friends have deluged me with anti-Mormon YouTube Videos, which I have watched. They think I should find them convincing but are shocked to find that I think much of what these videos say to be pretty shallow and simply untrue to a careful consideration of the Bible.  To me it seems the Bible clearly supports Latter Day Saints teaching!"

How about a short statement on what you find attractive about them, something to add personality and appeal

Gospel Tangents and Keystone are the only ones that jump out at me, though I know I like the Central ones from personal experience

Sort of kinda LDS themed I have been watching  " Hello Saints " which is  run by an Evangelical Pastor who is looking into all things LDS .

Interesting perspectives.

If I had done that, this post would have come out two or three weeks from now! We're on vacation currently, but yesterday's weather was so yucky that we didn't want to go out. So I killed time creating this post. Given time constraints I wasn't spending a lot of time investigating their content. As you see, it was quite a list (and incomplete probably), and mostly I was verifying that they weren't subtly anti-LDS, or heretical (whatever that means in an LDS context).

Both Gospel Tangents and Keystone look really interesting. They were among the ones I had never heard of (unlike the Centrals, of which I was already aware), and I can't wait to dig through their "back catalog," as it were.

The Stick of Joseph is really cool, too, and I plan to spend some time digging through their videos. A particular video of theirs that I really liked was an interview with Dr. Dan Peterson that was posted just 2 months ago. I found this one actually a couple of weeks ago while looking for Dan Peterson videos to add to a playlist:

I noticed that one a few weeks ago, by chance. Haven't checked it out further, and it wouldn't have made my list because it isn't specifically an advocacy channel.

I may try to make a catalog of all LDS advocacy, LDS interest (like "Hello Saints"), and anti-LDS channels, just for the fun of it. My wife tells me I'm trying to spread myself out too much and should concentrate on my main YouTube channel. But I am privileged to have Attention Deficit Disorder, so I naturally go off on all tangents. It's called a disorder, but in my case it means that I am a generalist, not a specialist, and I love it. I once took a medication to deal with the ADD, and it was interesting to be tightly focused, but the side effects were undesirable, so I quit. But having felt what it was to be focused, I was thereafter able to make myself focus tighter when I wanted, so it worked out in the end.

In my search for LDS channels I found some anti channels, and they were quite interesting, too. In a car crash kind of way. They were almost all pathetic and overwrought, except for one which was absolutely crazy. It was wonderful! Full of conspiracy theory junk. Their most recent video, which I didn't watch, was talking about the lies they predicted would be uttered during the upcoming general conference. The channel's videos are so nuts, that I was tempted to email the poster to tell him that he needs to lighten up because he'd never catch any Mormons that way. It was like someone baiting a mousetrap with ball bearings. But I resisted the impulse.

What I would really like to see is a percentage of chatter, etc vs solid informative discussion.  Dont mind relevant personal stories, its the back and forth chit chat and the chest thumping that drives me insane.

I've got a few to add:

Messages of Christ - this one is run by a Scripture Central guy. Pretty good stuff for Sunday School - high-quality 3D renders of the tabernacle and its furnishings, ancient Jerusalem, the setting of the Bible, as well as discussion of the symbolism of various elements of the scriptures.

Scriptural Mormonism - the Youtube channel companion to Robert Boylan's blog of the same name. His blog is mostly extended arguments and blurbs from books that he reads, but the Youtube channel is extended presentations and interviews. High-level discussion.

LDSPhilosophy - Joseph Lawal's Youtube channel. He posts infrequently, but it's very high level philosophical and theological content, not for beginners in philosophical theology. If you like Blake Ostler you'll like this.

Our mission is to promote the study of the doctrines and principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as restored in our day by the Prophet Joseph Smith. We believe that “by study and also by faith” our knowledge and love of our Father in Heaven, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the “finer points of [Their] doctrine” will lead us to that “sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall”. We believe that our Savior Lives and is ever-present in our lives and that through Joseph Smith, the LORD restored His true church with all of the authority, power, doctrine, covenants, and ordinances necessary for our salvation and exaltation. “By way of commandment, and also by the Spirit of prophecy and revelation” did the LORD bring forth the Book of Mormon record out of darkness and into light to be a beacon of hope to the world- “to the convincing of Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting Himself unto all nations”. He lives! We bear witness of it!

Here at Gospel Tangents, we explore Mormon History, Science, and Theology. We don’t shy away from anything: polygamy, the racial ban, Mountain Meadows Massacre, the Mark Hoffman bombings, Masonry, DNA & the Book of Mormon, multiple First Vision accounts. It’s all fair game. If you want us to talk about something, please let us know! We welcome all flavors of Mormons: active, inactive, former Mormons, the Community of Christ–anyone who has an interest in the restoration of the gospel that Joseph Smith restored in 1830. We want a 360 degree view of Mormonism. Of course we’ll talk to LDS Scholars, Brian Hales, Paul Reeve, Mark Staker, and Ugo Perego but we’ll also talk to people like Lach MacKay, an apostle for the Community of Christ, Jim Vun Cannon, a counselor in the First Presidency of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Anne Wilde, David Rosenvall who has an unusual geography theory. Please subscribe and tell us what you'd like to learn more about!

Welcome to the home of our new and unique web series, "Thumb Follow Me"! Our series brings fun, scripture-focused content for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And we do it in a very ‘Thumby’ way, hehehe. We release a new episode following the "Come Follow Me" lessons each week. Our videos, centered around the Book of Mormon, are crafted to be fun, silly, and story-driven, perfect for engaging young minds with scriptural teachings. Not only that, but we also offer a variety of zany songs on similar themes. Keep an eye out for them; we release them randomly. You are going to LOVE them. ------------------------------------ Thumb Follow Me is independently operated and not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our content, inspired by scripture, is reviewed for accuracy by a former seminary and institute teacher with experience in curriculum development for Seminaries and Institutes. Views expressed here are our own

Hi everybody welcome to my channel, Mormonism with the Murph! The goal of this channel is to do a fair and objective analysis into the controversial aspects of the LDS Church's History, Doctrine, Truth Claims and History! I grew up in the Church, had a strong testimony the church and gospel was true, served a mission etc. But at age 22 I lost my faith encountering some troubling parts of church history. I had experiences that brought me back to the faith and the last couple of years I have gone back and forth between critics and apologists over many of these issues. I aim to balanced, fair and to look at both sides of the argument and eliminate my bias. I will be researching different topics and interview experts, historians and scholars to discuss many of these topics! Please like, comment, share and subscribe to my channel!

This is a channel that attempts to bring together as many films, filmstrips, and videos as possible produced by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since the opening of the LDS Motion Picture studio in 1953. Many of these films are difficult if not impossible to find, though some may be available through other avenues. Not every film is an official production of BYU or the LDS Church (such as "the Bridge", "The Pump", or "Mouths of Babes" which were produced by LDS members for LDS members), though most are. If we don't have it, you can bet we're still trying to get it! I am not an employee of BYU or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (though I used to be many years ago). The materials shared on this YouTube channel were produced by them and not by myself. They are shared here for educational and research purposes only

This channel is primarily to offer tools for individuals, families and teachers to help explore the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This started as a resource for teachers in the Seminary and Institute programs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a coordinator in Church Education, I have the opportunity to help train volunteer teachers and these videos are intended as a resource for them. So, if you are not a seminary teacher, you may wonder why there are videos on S&I administration... That's why. Going forward, I will also be producing content that may have a broader appeal and use, like the Scripture Gems video podcast, but my goal is still the same - to do what I can, using the gifts God has given, to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. These videos are my own productions and not official productions of the LDS Church.

These videos are meant to inform and confirm truth about beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka, "Mormons"), and are not intended to convert. Video topics are inspired by questions frequently asked to me or misunderstood by those of other beliefs. Each video is made independently by me, a Mormon girl in Orange County, California, with many friends who are not members of the LDS Church who have wanted to learn the truth behind what Mormons believe. These videos are not officially affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, though my top aim is for accuracy. This channel is not meant for debate, but to inform. While degrading comments about any religion will be removed, questions are welcome.

This is about the gospel of "good news" of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was the only begotten of the Father in the Flesh and born of a virgin mother Mary, he was half God and half mortal. He only gave His life because he chose to, although He could have chosen to get off the cross. He atoned for all our sins all we need to do is acknowledge Him by following his teachings and example. We should love God and our neighbor as we love and treat ourselves. This is what His gospel is about loving and serving others I only created this channel out of my love for my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my fellow human beings. The gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored on the earth nearly two centuries ago by another prophet who saw and spoke with Christ. "I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it." ~ Joseph Smith

A channel I just yesterday found is that of David Alexander, a former Catholic, who is quite interesting. He comments on "Hello Saints" and recognizes it as a soft and gentle attempt to woo Latter-day Saints away from their faith:
