Is it normal for autistic Mormon to study Chinese?

Recommended Posts

I am 17, half-Mexican, and have autism, I’ve been learning Chinese and talking to native speakers on Chinese Internet forums, and learning the grammar and Pinyin/characters, I find the amount of people with autism who don’t learn Chinese kind of disappointing because there is a lot of opportunity in China to study there and spread awareness about people with autism, and China is a society which likes really smart people, so I think autistic people who want to be smart will function fine in China, especially if they’re interested in information technology.

I am only posting this to spread awareness, I am more serious about studying Chinese than I was before and feel passionate about it, I think yea China is not a religious country but the need for autistic foreigner to learn Chinese is high, therefore that is why I learn Chinese.

I don’t care what people on this forum say, I am interested in China and Chinese and if you don’t agree with that and ban me from posting, then you’re wrong, The Mormon church have me this gift of language and I believe God has set this path for me.

If you get banned for posting, it won’t be because anyone thinks it is wrong or foolish for you to study Chinese or anything else. It is just that your many threads have not really been the type of topics this board is meant to have.

One of the board’s rules is this:

”Repeated or multiple threads on the same topic (unless it is a unique sub-topic)”

If you have different questions about your life you want feedback on or if you want to spread awarrness, just stick to this one thread.  If you open another too soon that is close and is personal, you will risk getting your threads locked and yourself banned.

I suspect most here think it’s fantastic if someone want to study any language. We ( speaking of humans in general) need to learn more about r different people. Have fun with it.

Another rule you are breaking is signing back up after banning. As I understand, bannings are usually temporary, my guess is for about a month, but as soon as you start fighting banning by signing up under a new name, you are likely to get permanently banned.

If you commit to one thread and to respect any future bannings by waiting until it’s lifted, perhaps you won’t be banned again.

Also avoid sexual topics, or looking for advice on too personal topics. This is not a place to get help that should be coming from those who know you well or even professional therapists or advisers.

Enjoy China, brother.

If you wanted guidance, I have a few popular proverbs I could go over.

Do you think "No Mormon is an island"? Do you fear you require the company and support of other members in order to thrive, and everyone lives their life being affected by the world around them, do you think irreligious China will make you irreligious? Because it's not about what we think, it's what you think. Maybe "Every Mormon is an island": Perhaps you should be, like us all, striving to be "In the World But Not of It", that it is China that stands to be influenced by you, and not the other way around. Maybe China will be more religious with more members in it than staying out of it. You aren't exactly "pitching your tent towards Sodom" here, as far as I know.

I doubt the difference between those who study Chinese and those who do not are about having autism (and there is a large variability in many things those on the spectrum are interested in and can learn).  Because Chinese can be very visual, it might be fit some characteristics that those with autism have, for sure.

Best wishes

Btw, I have several nieces and nephews who know or are studying Chinese, all members of the Church. One went on a Chinese speaking (Cantonese iirc) mission to Calgary. I used to live there in Calgary (Alberta) and there is a massive immigration population there. My daughter’s best friends were Korean and Chinese, our neighbors were Chinese.  Most were from Hong Kong.

One new nephew is Chinese, he was just over a day or two ago, first time we have been able to just chat.  Others have lived and worked in Asia (one taught English in China) and ultimately want to get into business in Asia.

From their experiences I really can’t imagine you getting any blowback for choosing to study Chinese, everyone has been very positive towards my family members doing so.

There is nothing wrong with anyone to study anything, unless it is something ungodly. Just do what you are able. Also  try not to label yourself, and certainly do not anyone else to do so. You are created in the image of God. So Learn all about the world, learn about the entire world. God created us the learn and to grow in every righteous pursuit, that is within our reach. God bless you, and remember, and remember again you are created in God’s image. Also, good luck with your desires and effort. But to your question, absolutely study any language you desire. Again, God bless you.
