You should have just let it lie, my comment about Biden. Why CFR, you weren't correct in your assumptions that he lied about having a stuttering problem.

You shouldn't have made this political. So gIve it up or supply your diagnostic tool. You have no idea what you are talking about. I never said he lied about having a stuttering problem. He is lying about having a stuttering disorder now. One more time, he doesn't come anywhere close to having enough dysfluency to qualify for that diagnosis.

Second CFR.

Right.  You mean the actual experience/practice correct?

Yes, in grad school. You are limited to who shows up to the clinic for therapy, for one thing. I'm sure there are different methods/opportunities depending on the school and its location/professors. I had a professor who brought in tracheotomy patients, for example, but it was very limited experience.

And let me take this opportunity to chastize those who fall for Biden's stuttering excuses. He doesn't qualify as a stutterer from any direction, there are assessment techniques and it requires a certain percentage of dysfluencies which is a bizillion times more than he ever did.  If he had trouble at all (and I've heard no corroboration at all) it was likely very normal developmental stuttering which goes away on it's own. Shame on him for telling those with honest to goodness dysfluency problems that they can get over it by reading poetry. That is a total jerk move.

Deleted. Not worth engaging.

Right back at you, CFR that you didn't make it political. I sure wasn't going there.

In the link below which is from the stuttering foundation, there are myths etc. And in the quote you'll see that it says many will continue throughout adulthood, this is where Biden is IMO. He's not full on a stutterer now, as he was while in his early years and teen years. I've given you plenty on when he was a teen and had it, why won't you acknowledge it???

Glad you said it's incurable in a post to someone else, maybe Scott. Thanks for that. C/P'd quote below:

"Although there is no cure for stuttering, successful elimination of mild stuttering is likely when treatment is initiated before four years of age. For all persons who stutter, an optimal outcome depends on the appropriate combination of education, training, and individualized interventions. More information and resources for physicians and parents are available on the Stuttering Foundation Web site at http://www.stutteringhelp.org.https://www.stutteringhelp.org/sites/default/files/Teen_Myths_Beliefs_StraightTalk.pdf"

https://www.stutteringhelp.org/sites/default/files/Teen_Myths_Beliefs_StraightTalk.pdf C/P'd this quote below:

"Most people who recover from stuttering do so in early childhood. Stuttering usually begins around the age of 2, so if it is going to go away by itself, it usually does so within 6 months to a year. If you continue stuttering into your teenage years, you will most likely continue to stutter throughout adulthood. The good news is that there are many options and choices in managing stuttering productively. However, continuing to avoid dealing with stuttering due to denial or a hope or belief that it might simply “go away” tends to make our problems worse, not better. (my bold)

Me: Below is the link from the stuttering foundation and they list people that have a stuttering problem, would you have known? I didn't know all these people had it as well. Notice the title of the article, "Famous People Who Stutter". They didn't say, famous people who use to stutter."

https://www.stutteringhelp.org/famouspeople

Can we let this go? Or is this not good enough? If not, then I concede to whatever you want me to.

OK, let's play, you expert, you.  Now I will bold the stuff in red that you have to omit to continue playing,

You then put up a list of people who you had no idea that they stuttered!!  Hello???  Why did you have no idea?   Could it be...maybe...because they are no longer stuttering!  Should I repeat that for you?? Did you see the one where it said he "overcame" stuttering along with homelessness? Are you going to call him homeless the rest of his life?  You should, you expert, you. Have you ever seen one of these stars blow movie lines or a talk and explain it away by claiming they stuttered? CFR of any of these people making excuses by claiming they stutter. Quite the contrary, they are more likely to talk about how the struggle enabled them to get to where they are.

You. Don't. Know. What. You. Are. Talking. About.

You have a real life example right here, Scott, and yet you appeal to lists of people who no longer stutter....to the point people are surprised to hear they ever did. Then we have those who exploit this very real disability to excuse their blunders .... and the people who defend doing that.

Disclaimer: There are, obviously, people who have minor ongoing symptoms along with those where it is a life destroying disability (it is the latter that make me despise those who use others' pain to hide behind).  But we all have normal levels of common dysfluencies. You have to exceed that to be diagnosed as having a dysfluency disorder...which also involves particular types of dysfluencies and secondary characteristics. This is a neurological disorder, it will affect people differently, of course.

Incurable? Yet you just put up a list of people that you had no idea ever stuttered.  Do you still not get what developmental means?

I know you don't believe Biden, but his word against yours and others. He says it's a lifelong thing with him and when tired he still has a problem with it. But like my articles from the stuttering foundation mention, there are ways to manage it. Why do you think you know better than them, why does it say in some of the famous peoples' stories, how they figured out how to manage it. Why are you making me out to be someone who is claiming to be an expert, I'm not one. I did want to be a speech pathologist when a youth because I suffer with some minor impediments. But I didn't go that route, but respect highly those who do, and have worked with a school speech pathologist while being a safety aide at one time for students that didn't want to be in the classroom and I would take the student to the speech pathologist and sit in with them while the therapy was being done. I do take what you're saying seriously, but I have an opinion too. I'm not an expert, seems we're getting our messages crossed somehow or I'm a slow learner.
