Scott Lloyd Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Noticed just now there are new “reference guides” in the Gospel Library app, one for the Book of Mormon and one for the Bible. Anybody here have any insights/experience regarding them? How do they differ in purpose or utility from the Topical Guide, index, Guide to the Scriptures?
JustAnAustralian Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Saw them a few weeks ago. Haven't used them, not sure how useful I'll personally find them, but I guess they could be a good jump point for those looking to dive into specific areas. 1
Hamba Tuhan Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 I've been using the Book of Mormon one since January to guide my daily reading. 1

I noticed it too just the other day as I finished reading the Book of Mormon. I thought I had ignored / overlooked it in prior readings. But it caught my attention and now I'm going through the references, a few each day. 1

That’s a good suggestion. I can see how they would be useful for a topics-focused reading of the book as opposed to a sequential one.

They are under "Study Helps," but only exist for the Bible and Book of Mormon. Perhaps the Reference Guides for the PGP and D&C are still in process.

longview Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 I did notice the new references a couple months ago. I was concerned because it seemed like there are quite a few references already such as Bible Dictionary (which I really love) and the Topical Guide. Even the Book of Mormon has its own index. I love using the Gospel Library app (especially the powerful annotation capabilities and the very fast scripture search using bare minimum abbreviations) but I am frustrated with its clumsy scrolling feature. The Church IT department really needs to improve the accessibility and readability of the indexes. I am wondering if another hierarchy can be provided that will consolidate all the different indexes together so that we will be able to decide which one or more to zero in on and study. Each term can have the notations of particular indexes next to it grouped together within parenthesises). For example: salvation (BD, TG, BMI, OTRG, GS) where BD is Bible Dictionary, TG is Topical Gudie, BMI is Book of Mormon Index, OTRG is Old Testament Reference Guide, GS is Guide to the Scriptures, etc. We can tap on the notation and the side panel will slide into view. If that panel has the information that is needed, it can be scrolled if the screen is not large enough or the heading in the panel can be tapped for linking to actual location.
