If you average that amount across all of the years, it is about $70 million a year. Good info, but to better understand, would need to adjust for inflation. One 1985 dollar is worth 2.5 dollars today. 1
rpn Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 I understand that there may not be capacity to distribute more (and that LDS charities isn't the only donation stream), but I surely would have loved to see $1 billion during this pandemic.
Tacenda Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 (edited) I got a new email from the church today, I wonder if the church would ever consider matching dollar for dollar what the members donate, and use the rainy day fund to do it, what I've been hoping it would do all this time, show that the profit side of the church can sacrifice as well. IMO, if you want to make your non-tithing donation dollars count, send it to fast offerings. 3

Analytics Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 These donations are wonderful, and I am confident that LDS Charities did its due diligence to ensure these donations had a massive impact. What is an impactful donation? It's a donation to a legitimate charity where most of the money it collects is spent on its charitable programs such as digging wells, providing food to the poor, cancer research, neutering stray cats, or whatever. In contrast, impactful donations do not go towards organizations where most of the funds aren't used for their programs and instead are used to overpay executives, pay for fundraising, or are simply stockpiled by the charity for a rainy day. 1
