What makes you assume I'm an American?

Among other things, you've mentioned being the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays Grant which restricts eligibility to Americans.  Either way..... I hope that RFM's clients are receiving good competent representation, regardless of their alleged crimes.

I hope that anyone accused of a crime receives competent representation from lawyers looking out for their best interest.  As a fellow American,  I would hope that you agree.

For me truly competent representation is about getting people a fair sentence or plea rather than the lowest penalty possible. I am all for fairness.  I am not that certain the American judicial system is the best for that.

I would prefer laws to be changed where needed so that people can receive competent representation while being held appropriately responsible for their actions.  I think there should be harsh laws discouraging driving drunk in terms of losing driver’s licenses and having to do extensive community service as well as paying significant fines (and anything else that has been shown effective in preventing further incidents) even if no one is hurt.

My understanding is that Fulbright-Hays funding is a block grant to the institution. My cohort included postgraduate students from the US, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea. But we were all studying at American universities.

I find the incident of Martin switching the stone out and seeing the Joseph was unable to translate , interesting. Apparently not just any stone would do. Then again, if God was aware of the trick, He could have withheld the translation on purpose to thwart Martin.

If He was aware?

Most likely this.

Either things have changed, or I'm not as familiar with the rules as I thought.  Whatever the case, it seems important to you for others to perceive you as non-American.  Either way, you didn't address my comment about the benefits to those accused of crimes to have good, competent legal representation.  I imagine that you agree, but simply used alleged irl info of a board member to paint an unflattering picture of him.

I don't disagree with anything you said here. However, there are too often issues in the criminal justice system that put alleged criminals in unfair situations.  Criminal defense attorneys are a needed protection against that.

I commented on this primarily for two reasons.  First, I was a little irritated that Hamba injected irl info into the discussion, presumably to make a board member look disreputable.  Secondly, about 20 years ago my wife was charged and convicted of DUI despite not being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  A previously undiagnosed medical condition was to blame.  Despite a 3 week hospitalization, documentation from multiple physicians, and no blood or urine tests, she was found guilty.  It required a great deal of time, effort, and money to get her record expunged.  A criminal defense attorney in the beginning would have been very beneficial in our case.
