Good KSL article describing the Salt Lake Temple renovation

Everyone knows how seriously I take all things temple and how protective I am of what was restored.  Reading this article has somewhat set my mind at ease concerning the upcoming 4 year renovation that begins at the end of the month.

https://www.ksl.com/article/46685668/heres-what-will-happen-during-the-4-year-closure-of-the-salt-lake-temple

Some highlights for me:

- The interior of the temple will be renovated to look more like it did when it was originally built by Utah’s pioneers

- Visitors will also be able to view the construction from the Conference Center balconies and roof.  (Visitors will) see the foundation of the temple. No one has seen that.

The renderings highlight a return to the temple's original pioneer-era decor and color scheme, Utt explained. The inside of the temple has sported a white color scheme since its last renovation decades ago, but the upcoming renovation will bring back original, darker colors. The wood inside the temple was painted light colors during the temple’s 60s-era renovation but will also be restored to its original look with mahogany, cherry and oak coloring.

- The temple will still conduct “live” sessions, as well.

Kind of reminds me of the Provo City Center Temple

I wish we could see the upside down foundation arches.  "When the foundation was replaced with shaped granite stones, sixteen large inverted arches were built into it. There is no record as to why they decided to do that. That manner of construction was then unknown in this country."     https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/1993/08/a-temple-to-exalt?lang=eng

I was inclined to think of the reconstructed Nauvoo Temple. When I toured it prior to its dedication, I was struck by the darker interior colors. I had never seen the like of it in any temple I had been in up to that time.

One thing that was not clear to me from the article: Will the audio-visual endowment presentations be only for non-English-speaking patrons, or will English speakers have them as an option as well? I had understood earlier that they would, but now I’m less sure.

I hope there is a worldwide re dedication, so that all recommend holders can watch the proceedings

If past patterns hold (Nauvoo, Palmyra and Winter Quarters), there will be.

just as an aside I was perusing the Canute Peterson (early Utah Stake President or Presidency member at least ) and he had this to say about the Nauvoo Temple

"While here in Nauvoo I attended many meetings. I was present at the meeting in the Temple at the time the upper floor sank and gave the people such a scare. President Young arose and told the people to keep quiet that there was no danger...the floor would sink no further"

Any comment on this?  I had a Stake President in a Stake Priesthood meeting talk about attending a Solemn Assembly in the Washington Temple.  He then not say what it was about.  40 years later I get the feeling he should not of mentioned it,  because it was the first and last time I heard anyone talking about being at a Solemn Assembly ever.  Am I wrong???  Please only post what you have heard in person yourself.

they do those every so often or did anyways, basically gathering to an area for a conference and do sustainings. I didn't think it was a big secret though or secretive

yep! a few, now older people. it's just a meeting, with GA speakers and whatever they say. I recall one brother saying he heard Pres. Kimball. I didn't get the impression it was confidential or anything.
