The ratings are in for CNN, and they don't look great. If Sam Young had meant to convey merely that CNN is a national news network, he could/should have expressed it in those terms. "Top tier" implies one of the very best, which is far from the case where CNN is concerned.

I provided data for CNN.com (which is where the article was published) showing that CNN.com is among the top US news websites thus supporting Sam's statement. You have provided an article indicating that CNN's cable news channel is down in prime time viewership which I don't see as relevant unless Sam's story ran on the CNN network (do you know if it did?). But, this is, IMO, a dumb thing to argue over. If it is "top tier" by Sam Young's criteria of judging news there is certainly data there to support him making such a conclusion. 3

If the CNN coverage were favorable to the Church, I think we would be fine counting it as "top tier" in that instance. When it's negative, why then, it's second-rate. I agree with Scott that CNN is a joke in terms of credibility and objectivity, but at the same time, it is a major news provider. Maybe we can split the difference and call it "midling?" 1

Maybe we can split the difference and call it "midling?" Or even spell it correctly and write it “middling”? As I said, I’m OK with calling it a national (as opposed to a local) news provider. That is accurate without making a value judgment, as “top tier” does. I can understand why Young wants to call it that, but we don’t have to parrot his propaganda. Or at least we are entitled to challenge it.

The book with talking donkeys, the sun stopping its revolution around the earth, a flood that covered the whole earth and no death before Adam and Eve. Should we make a list of all the other things that God Himself wrote in the Bible? So instead of addressing the content of the verses, you make fun of the entire work. It's very easy to live whatever lifestyle you like to and make yourself feel good about doing it by simply discarding those things that you dislike b/c the other part of that source talks about things that you deem to be beyond the realm of possibility. That's what is known as throwing the baby out with the bathwater, also known as rationalization. If you believe there is a God (and at this point I'm doubtful that you truly believe there is one), I'd would like to know what you believe are the limits of His Power. I'm curious that if you do have a belief in a Supreme Being, are we created by Him, if so what is our purpose and why would He create us?

Most of them don't have the pastor or priest probe their members about it though. If we ask people if they are honest, but we don't ask them if they are chaste, then chastity is not really important. If we ask people if they attend meetings, but we don't ask them if they are chaste, then chastity is not really important. If we ask people if they are current in paying child support, but we don't ask them if they are chaste, then chastity is not really important. There are certainly those who would like to see the Church of Jesus Christ stop caring enough to ask. And some of them are clever enough to know that dressing up this demand as a child-protection issue looks better and has more potential impact. 2
