That's what's been reported by multiple news sources. Quote A woman who says a former Mormon missionary leader raped her in the 1980s and that the church failed to take her allegations seriously has filed a lawsuit, saying Thursday she wants the church to change the way it handles sexual abuse reports. You claimed that "Denson's claims were not taken seriously." That claim is belied by the Church retaining a law firm and entering into settlement negotations with Ms. Denson's attorneys. Actually, I never claimed that. I wrote that's what you should have said instead of saying she went rogue. 11 hours ago, Thinking said: I think you meant to write, "but that initial objective was destroyed when Denson's claims were not taken seriously." By that way, do you know what was said at the negotiating table? If not, you can't place the blame solely on Denson for the negotiations ending.
Amulek Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Her lawyer stated in the press conference that they weren't the ones who leaked the recording to the media, which makes sense because any prospective settlement would have included a confidentiality agreement. Releasing the tape to the media is what scuttled the settlement negotiations. You didn't have to be sitting at the negotiating table to know that letting the cat out of the bag was the deal breaker here, and her lawyers basically admitted this was the case. Denson was the one who went off script by releasing the recording to the media. That sure sounds like going rogue to me.

Is it possible that Denson released the tape because she didn't agree with what was happening at the negotiating table? If two sides begin to negotiate, are they bound to finish negotiations?

I haven't been following this story very closely for a while. Did Denson lie about not being the one to release the tape?

I think it is very possible and if so, then it seems likely she didn't agree with what her lawyer was doing as much as disagreeing with the Church. Since he is an experienced and from what I have heard successful lawyer for these types of cases, it appears to me she was likely unrealistic in her own demands...Iow she was the one who didn't take the negotiations seriously, was dismissive of what was going on. Did Denson lie about not being the one to release the tape? Depends, I guess. Her original posistion was that it was released without her permission. Her attorney said that she sent it to lots of people and that it is unknown who made it public. What can be stated is that Denson released the recording to the media and/or lots of people. 2

That seems like a lie of omission. It's not honest to say that you didn't release the recording when you were the one who made sure that it got released. I have to admit that her history of lies is the one huge thing stopping me from believing her accusations. 2

I can see a difference in opinion between her lawyer and her. She seems to want, and will not be satisfied until she can affirmatively state the JB has been excommunicated or otherwise disciplined by the Church. Her lawyer, seems more focused on the outcome that is about redress to her in the form of payment. 1

I don’t know why Denson released the tape. I have my suspicions, but I don’t know with certainty. That isn’t really the question that matters though. What matters is this: Did she distribute the recording on the advice counsel? After listening to what was said by her attorney during the press conference, my opinion is that she did this on her own. In other words, she went rogue. Quote If two sides begin to negotiate, are they bound to finish negotiations? Obviously not...especially if one side has someone on their team who throws away their most valuable bargaining chip.

Well, I think it’s kind of disingenuous to characterize something being a “leak,” when the person doing the talking is actually the ultimate source of the “leaked” information to begin with. 2
