The Church doesn't need to develop anything. It already has a program. What do you think those of us who live outside the US do? 5
rpn Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 So why do the 8-11 have to be separated by sex, anyway. Both should lean how to fix their bikes and ride them safely, and learn how to use your communities mass transit and do first aid and how to sew on a button, what it is like to wash their ill neighbor's windows, or sing with the widow, etc. etc. Make a list of things the parents of these children would like their children to do or learn, and then see whether you can match up those needs with people who will spend a couple of nights/days with them teaching them/practicing with them. That shares the load of the program. Maybe even make when they do this flexible so that some would be after school, and others could be in the evening. 2
The Nehor Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 At the risk of possibly sounding callous with President Monson gone the break with scouting may be imminent. 2
rongo Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 Update: Met with the Scout committee after church yesterday (primary president and counselor over Cubs, 5 of the 6 den leaders, committee chair, me). They were unanimously ecstatic (the primary president said that she had hoped for something like this for years). We decided to have the Blue and Gold in February as a swan song and to give out remaining awards. Webelos will continue to finish up on the Arrow of Lights, since they are close, but the other dens will not hold any January Cub Scouts. We will launch after the Blue and Gold. The committee wanted to hold "activity day boys" twice a month, like the girls. They were going through the Faith in God book and brainstorming activities. I will be speaking individually to the parents of the boys so that I can address concerns and questions. 2
