I don't believe in Evolution because No Death before the Fall is in the scriptures

Have you ever considered that both the scriptures and the prophets just got it wrong?  Everything and I do mean everything in biology is dependent on evolution being true...but more than just being dependent on evolution but backed by unquestionable tested evidence.  Take evolution out of the equation and nothing makes sense...but with it everything in biology works and makes perfect sense.  I suggest you put down your Ensign and scriptures and actually read a biology book on evolution.

Humans decended from lower life forms over billions of years.  We are biologically decended from a common ancestor with the chimpanzee, with whom we share 98.3% common genes.  Evolution is a fact..deal with it

How do you explain Jeremiah 4:10, Jeremiah 20:7, Ezekiel 14:9, 2 Thessalonians 2:11? Abraham 2:24?

Neither of the Jeremiah passages deal with Satan, which was your initial claim.  Moreover, neither is even divine deception, but rather the same sort of disappointment and resentment which Jona expressed when Nineveh was not destroyed.  Aside from the very poor KJV translation in those passages, there are always conditionals -- choices to be made, and consequences to be born.  These you seem unable to understand, and this is a very common feature throughout Scripture.  Those unable to understand such simple concepts are the most likely to apostatize.

You likewise completely misunderstand verse 9 of Ezekiel 14:6-9 by taking a bad translation out of context.  Get a good translation, such as the New Jerusalem Bible, so as to understand these verses.  Ezekiel the Prophet is speaking the words of Yahweh to sinful Israel which seeks Him through a false prophet, and He gives them what they want to hear -- to their own destruction.  The same happened in Jeremiah's and Lehi's time, when false prophets brought destruction to Judah.

You make the same evangelical fundamentalist mistake in separating verse 11 from 2 Thess 2:7-12, where evil people brought delusion upon themselves.   Again, you need an accurate translation, and you need to learn to read for context.

Abr 2:24 confuses you since you do not realize that he told the truth -- Sarai is Abram's sister (Gen 20:12).

I really don't know what to think about evolution other than to say is if it takes God a billion years to put a human being on the earth, that seems to be a very slow and not an efficient process of creation.  If I become a God, I am going to seek faster ways to do this.  I am not going to wait millions of years for some biological process to get its act together and do what I want it to do.

I think that evoltion is a telestial process, one of the ways things are bound to happen after a Fall. At some point God's atonement gets things back on track, aa when Adam was given the covenants.

Now you must have considered that there is more to enjoy than merely the observable (or theoretical), physical world, of which evolution is a part, and that the Ensign and the scriptures address what went on before and what will go on after.

Okay, bu t our church is still teaching the same thing "the Fall of Adam brought physical death into the world (see Moses 6:48). " I doubt the Gospel Topics was not to us. Did ancient Jews didn't take Genesis literally?

I see no contradiction between the Fall bringing death, or telestial existence, into creation and telestial laws and natural processes such as evolution being the means for telestial life to become established to a point where things were ready for Adam to assume his role as the father of mortal humanity 6,000 years ago.

Yes, but I believe God created the evidence to make it look that way. It is a philosophical idea similar to the simulation hypothesis.

It is speculation because nothing in scripture or  authoritative church sources teaches that, they teach about "paradisaical earth" and "Fall bringing death into the world".  It says "world" not "garden only".

How about Deuteronomy 13:1-5? "The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul". Here is what Mormon intellectuals are saying about divinely approved deception

Quote

The first example involves Pharaoh's murderous instructions to the Egyptian midwives: 16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. 18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? 19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. Exodus 1:16-19 The midwives are confronted with a command from the head of state which offends their personal/professional morality. They decline to participate, and actively deceive the Pharaoh--they even lie to him or his officers so that the deception may continue, as well as to (one assumes) spare themselves his punishment. The subsequent verses indicate God's approval of their action. (See Exodus 1:20). Honesty to the wicked is not the primary moral value: obedience to the will of God is.

One can excuse and explain anything through that sort of copout, which is what apostates usually do.  Yeh, it might be just a simulation:

Anti-Mormons accuse us of something very similar. Intellectual Mormons say, "For anyone who believes that for God nothing is impossible, the question is simple to answer. Why, then, must we insist that Joseph's brother's should have been awakened? Why is it unreasonable to assume that God simply kept them asleep?"

I don't understand why it is so hard for some to believe that God changed our world to make it appear old with millions of years of death and Evolution. I don't understand why it is hard for some to believe that Satan changed some historical documents, we know he did it with the 116 pages.

The FairMormon discussion says nothing about so-called "intellectual Mormons," and you have taken that statement out of context anyhow.   FairMormon does not speak for the LDS Church, so that their full discussion should be taken into account on its own merits.  In any case, by deflecting to their discussion, you show that your dishonesty knows no bounds.

Your tricksy God doesn't impress me. The whole story can be dismissed as a series of supernatural miracles. There is no way to contradict such an argument. However, one must wonder about a God who reportedly does one thing and then arranges every bit of evidence to make it look like something else happened. It's entirely possible that Creation occurred 6000 years ago or even last Thursday, and that God subsequently erased all the evidence, including our memories of it. But even if such stories are true, what's the point? God did not change the first 116 pages of the Book of Mormon. When M.H.  lost control of them God had already provided the information in another part of the plates.

I find it dishonest to posit divinely approved deception. That to me sounds more like that other guy.

That is still an argument from ignorance. What we can explain we can explain.

That is what the scriptures teach in many occasions.  It is called a Test of Faith.

Let me use a personal example. When asleep a bomb could go off next to me and I'd never wake up from it. My son OTOH is a very light sleeper. Thus any little noise/light wakes him up.

That is still an argument from ignorance. Plus we don't believe in the infallibility or any mortal man/woman. Is it a Test of Faith to know how the tides work? It is Test of Faith to know that our planet is billions of years old. Not to me. I think it is a true testament to the power of God that he did it that way.

Let me ask you something else. If God used 3 billion years of death and evolution to create humans, does that mean the Resurrection is going to take another 3 billion years to happen? Why doesn't God need millions of years for the Resurrection?

The evidence? The evidence shows evolution. Your lack of training in reading ancient texts leads you to believe otherwise. What you are doing stating an untestable and unsubstantiated opinion and declaring it to be fact without any evidence. The development of life and the resurrection are two completely unrelated events and you making this comparison speaks to why you fundamentally do not understand the data presented to you.

Show me the scientific evidence that god make it look that way.

Why is it hard to believe? Because there is no reason to belief it in the first place. The evidence tells us what happened, and the church's official position is that they have no opinion on the matter. If your opinion mattered, the church would say so; on the contrary, the church says leave science to science and goes on to fund research into the science of evolution. I could say that you are in fact a llama living at the bottom of the ocean and by a miracle of God, he is tricking everyone to believe you are a human sitting at a computer typing anti-science nonsense. Prove me wrong because all the evidence says I am right.

2 Ne 2:22: "And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end."

Thank goodness we have modern prophets that interpret our scriptures. We all know D&C 89:9 needed interpretation, we also have interpretation for 2 Ne 2:22.  In General Conference Elder Nelson taught, "The creation of a paradisiacal planet came from God. Mortality and death came into the world through the Fall of Adam" and again in General Conference Elder McConkie taught, "True believers know that this earth and man and all forms of life were created in an Edenic, or paradisiacal, state in which there was no mortality, no procreation, no death"

I don't believe God is a God of confusion, I do believe General Authorities act as prophets during General Conference, a time when millions of faithful latter day saints are listening. Nothing taught by other General Authorities in General Conference contradicts the teaching that there was no death before the Fall.  Elder Hales taught, "These conferences are always under the direction of the Lord, guided by His Spirit. We are not assigned specific topics. Over weeks and months, often through sleepless nights, we wait upon the Lord. Through fasting, praying, studying, and pondering, we learn the message that He wants us to give"

Lastly, I know our world appears to be old and the fossil record tells a story of millions of years of Evolution, but Elder Eyring taught, "The truth that matters most is verified only by revelation from God. Our human reason and the use of our physical senses will not be enough...The Lord taught His Apostle Thomas, who wanted physical evidence of the Savior’s Resurrection by touching His wounds, that revelation is safer evidence"

The scriptures are God's word to us about how we live our lives and are to be evaluated by the spirit, ie, our "hearts"

Science is the word of man to be evaluated by the senses and in words- messages of the heart cannot be conveyed by language.

There could be no sense of death- the way we experience it in our hearts- the loss of a child, the pain of grief, the feeling that a piece of your body has been torn from you- that understanding that words cannot convey- only the heart can convey- UNTIL there were beings on earth to experience the spirit and had a human, spiritual "heart"

So there could be no death AS IS FELT SPIRITUALLY IN THE HUMAN HEART until there were human hearts which knew the pain of death

Dinosaurs etc caused carbon to be recycled from their bodies onto the jungle floor to be consumed by plants and eaten by animals etc- but that is not "DEATH" as the human heart experiences at the loss of a loved one

THEREFORE there was no "death" in a human sense- no one FELT death until humans were capable of feeling the horrible word "death" which was in itself part of the "Fall" from innocence.

Part of the feeling of death is A fall from innocence

Therefore there could be no sense of human death as humans experience death until after the fall from innocence- and death is part of that fall in itself.

Ask any small child who has lost a parent- they KNOW that death includes a fall from innocence.

"No death before the fall" makes perfect sense to me!

Creating a connection where there is none is speculation. You are speculating that because the Fall brought death into the world, that it did not bring evolution into the world. But there is no connection between the Fall and your conclusion of what did not happen. Your beliefs should be respected, but don't say your aren't speculating.

According to the sources you cite, the Fall from the "paradisiacal earth" brought “death into the world,” which means it ushered in the natural processes of a telestial world as far back as anyone would care to posit. Where is the speculation in that?  And what’s the difference, from an eternal perspective, between billions of years and 6,000 years (none), and how does evolution prevent Adam and Eve from entering the fallen world 6,000 years ago (it doesn’t)?

On Evolution I guess, but it didn't say it has no official position on millions of years of death. I believe a fast evolution after the fall is possible, at least philosophically.  Okay, let just agree that we both can get very creative, and do some good speculation to fit our worldview.

I believe God made our world appear to be old with millions of years of death Evolution, you believe in millions of death and evolution and re-interpret the scriptures to fit your view. Can we agree to disagree?

In Mormon theology, nothing is supernatural.  Mormonism is a fully naturalistic religion, with a naturalistic God.  This is regarded as heresy by the normative Judeo-Christian-Muslim tradition, in which God is the only uncaused Cause of All Things (which He creates from nothing).  For Mormons, all humans are co-eternal with God, having no beginning and having no end.  We are of the genus and species of God.  All creation is from pre-existing matter and energy.

Answer: God's miracles through Moses were not performed according to telestial (as in this fallen world's) laws, and neither is the Resurrection (and "telestial" has a bit of a different meaning in an immortal kingdom than it does for this fallen world). But we do know that some will be resurrected last, and who knows how long that will take for some of them?
