Thankfully (but also sadly) this horrible crime was committed by an insane person but you can't make this 'case' with someone who is insane. That's what makes them insane. 1

For some reason I thought it would help anyone out there that might take something out of the Bible and use it to harm someone. While the thought is kind, I doubt that at that level of insanity it would have an effect.

NOM, no longer exists and I toggle between this board and those two, I know I'm bad. I should read StayLDS.com, that is more faith promoting, like this board. Most likely exmormon Reddit given what came up in a search. Do you find reading that material helpful in someway? Serious question as you talk here that you would like to stop being so troubled over the Church or so it seems to me. I am not suggesting you stop learning about church history, all of it...I see learning as a positive thing. I am just wondering at your choice of sources and why you do so. I would like to understand the whys of your choices. 1

I just think that at some point one needs to figure out what you want from a message board. It seems some could be "Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth" where they need to be by going back and forth rather than choosing where they need to be and doing things to help them be there. Everyone needs to figure that out for themselves.

I know I shouldn't view these boards, but it's like I do still yearn to learn the whole truth and nothing but. Still no excuse though. Like today I heard something new about the native Americans being killed off by the Mormons. That was a new one on me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liLXujigjPY . I know that was the past, but if we don't know the past we won't stop it from occurring again. I trusted the church at one time, they broke that trust, and I continue to search. I know this is probably the wrong route to go. But it's just like when someone you love breaks a trust and you try to cover your bases. 1

I don't consider you bad but I really don't think you actually think about what you are asking. You are asking for God to micro manage everyone's life so that they won't do anything wrong. Do you really want your life micro managed or just everybody else? I thought that was the plan that was rejected.

Daniel2 Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 I think it's easy for most of us to condemn the actions of this man. And understandably and justifiably so. I struggle with understanding how and why most Bible-believers (including Latter-day Saints) not only justify, but honor and venerate Abraham for his obedient willingness to sacrifice Isaac in the Biblical account, while condemning actions like this man, or those of the Lafferty Brothers. To many of us who are non-believers, the differences seem to be without distinction. I find it disturbing that some devout Christians I have spoken to still affirmatively answer the question, "If you were certain that you received a message from God commanded you to sacrifice your child, would you...?" 2

Thanks Jeanne, that is kind of you to say! I have heard of a few members that go through all of it and to have regained a firm testimony at the end. I don't know if that could be me or not. I considered going to my bishop at one point and telling him like it is, to see if he'd give me a recommend, because I wish I could serve in a humanitarian function somewhere out in the world. Or even volunteering on the JSP's project would be fun. Or working for the church in the history department, or elsewhere. I do miss having an updated temple recommend on occasion, especially to see my relatives that get sealed in the temple, or go on my MIL's birthday etc. I'm worthy in every way except for my belief being on the low end. When I say worthy, I mean I can answer the questions pretty easily except for the belief part. Even when I would go to a recommend interview I would have a difficult time saying I was worthy because I set the bar really high. Edited December 20, 2016 by Tacenda 2

It takes courage to put yourself in a place that you really have no desire to be in...but I think of the many members I used to know and still know...that feel the way you do and actually lie for that recommend. Your integrity speaks volumes. If someday you can take your desire to have it again and coincide that with being true to yourself, you will have an honest testimony..not borrowed...not just expected...but something that belongs to you. I wish you many good things in your travels through all of this. Though I have never been through the temple..other than being sealed to my parents...I have tiny testimonies of things that I have held on to and I am okay with that. Follow your heart's desires and find rest in a sure knowledge that God loves you...no matter what. This I have a true testimony of. 2

The polygamy and concubines in the Bible, Joseph Smith thought he had to have. And some that will kill in the name of religion such as some Muslims. And something in the Bible about homosexuals, causes hate. The Bible is words of men. How do we know how much is God breathed? I just shouldn't read stuff like this. Makes me question so much about religion and scriptures. If scriptures can do so much harm. Many polygamists stemming from Joseph Smith have had so much harm done. Speaking of the Kingstons and FLDS specifically. There is so much evil and it comes from the Bible. I just can't see God in any of it. I wish this man had not seen something from God in it either. God gives us those who make bad choices, and those who choose the right. Lessons can be learned from both, and if we are humble, the lessons we learn will make better people. 2
