The o&c of the priesthood promises a renewing of our bodies if we magnify and obtain both priesthoods. How do we know if we have magnified it? And when it talks about obtaining are we talking obtaining authority of the priesthood or power of the priesthood?

Have any of you experienced the renewing of the bodies?

In think “obtaining” comes from authorized conferral, and “power” comes from magnifying and receiving the God’s help. We know we have magnified it by a clear conscience and there resultant confidence (D&C 121:34-46).

The renewing of the body consists of the resurrection, the blessing to run and not be weary and walk and not faint, to recover quickly, and to have physical strength and endurance in the service of the Lord. I’ve experienced these (except the resurrection!).

Can a male hold both priesthoods at the same time?

Thanks,

They already do.  All Priesthoods are Melchizedek.  That includes the Aaronic.

Let's look at the verses in context:

  •  33 For whoso is faithful unto the obtaining these two priesthoods of which I have spoken, and the magnifying their calling, are sanctified by the Spirit unto the renewing of their bodies.

The renewal of their bodies in this verse is by the sanctification of the spirit.  Seems like a reference to the Baptism of Fire to me.

  •  34 They become the sons of Moses and of Aaron and the seed of Abraham, and the church and kingdom, and the elect of God.
  •  35 And also all they who receive this priesthood receive me, saith the Lord;

The idea that we become literally the seed of Abraham and eventually Christ through adoption has always been a gospel principle - Joseph Smith taught:

  • [The Holy Ghost] is more powerful in expanding the mind, enlightening the understanding, and storing the intellect with present knowledge [in] a man who is of the literal seed of Abraham than [in] one who is a Gentile, though it may not have half as much visible effect on the body. For as the Holy Ghost falls upon one of the literal seed of Abraham, it is calm and serene, and his whole soul and body are only exercised by the pure spirit of intelligence; while the effect of the Holy Ghost upon a Gentile is to purge out the old blood and make him actually the seed of Abraham. That man [who] has none of the blood of Abraham [naturally] must have a new creation by the Holy Ghost. In such a case, there may be more of a powerful effect upon the body, and visible to the eye, than upon an Israelite, while the Israelite at first might be far before the Gentile in pure intelligence.

Absolutely and unquestionably.

I would be dead if it were not for this, but no I will not talk about it.  Know that the principle is true and the only way to know that is to experience it for yourself.
