Ares Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Several threads were closed this morning after devolving into personal jabs and arguments. This includes judging other posters worthiness. The offenders are not limited to supporters or critics of any subject. The moderation team are not babysitters, and this board was created to allow discussion and dialogue, not fights. Posters who continue to engage in gratuitous personal remarks will be banned.
Ares Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Board GuidelinesGuidelines for Mormon Dialogue and Discussion Board: Before posting on this board, read everything below. Don't gloss over it and attempt to claim later that you didn't know the rules. You agreed to follow the guidelines upon registration. Failure to do so may result in a suspension, banning, or your posting ability being severely limited. The Purpose of Mormon DialoguePeople of all faiths are welcome to engage in gentlemanly discussion about topics related to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our two most important rules are:1. Be respectful of the moderators. We don't expect you to agree with our decisions, but we do expect to be respected for the work we put into this board. Do not start threads to criticize moderators, complainabout thread closures, or backtalk when we intervene. Furthermore, do not send us insulting, threatening, or taunting private messages. Just because no one else sees it doesn't mean we won't discipline you for such behavior.2. Be respectful of each other. This should be a matter of common sense, but we have a detailed list below of the kind of behavior that won't be tolerated.Mocking each others' beliefsJudging othersPersonal attacks. You may dispute a member's opinion, but you may not label them for having that opinion.Psychoanalyzing othersAttempting to provoke peoplePosting IRL info about board membersProfanity and vulgarityPretending to be someone you aren't, namely, posing as an ex-Mormon when you clearly are not. This only leads to feelings of hostility. We will allow inconsistencies in your story to be pointed out for the purpose of protecting anyone here you are trying to deceive.Altering members quotes on the boardQuoting members in your signature without obtaining their permissionChoosing offensive avatars or signaturesCopying and pasting material and claiming it as your own or posting anything copyrightedDerailing threads with irrelevant or unwanted commentary (i.e. If a discussion is about the nature of the Godhead, don't inject comments like, "There is no God." You can start your own thread about evidences of God's existence.)Telling others how to behave. Anything you find objectionable should be reported using the button located in each post.Refusing to provide appropriate references to support your statementsBadgering a participant for an answer when it has already been givenCreating another user name while you are suspended. This will result in being banned permanentlyCreating another user name to send a private message to a member who has blocked you from doing so. You are not entitled to contact anyone who doesn't want to be contacted.Violating standard rules of debate such as extreme comparisons and hyperboleTopics We Don't AllowPersonal topics such as "Why I Left the Church" threads. This is not a support group. If you are having a spiritual crisis and need help, contacting your local leaders would be the appropriate action and of course, taking your problem to our Father in Heaven. We do care very much for struggling members, but we don't want to see you made a target for judgment and insults. Don't make yourself the subject.Anything that resembles what you would find in The National Enquirer or other tabloids (i.e. LDS members accused of bad behavior. These discussions are not productive and only lead to judgment and speculation involving people we don't know.)Proselyting or "witnessing" from either side. Preaching doesn't create a discussion. It is one sided.Personal Squabbles. If you have a bone to pick with someone else, this is not the place to do it.Politics (unless directly related to the church).Sexually themed threads. These tend to become distasteful and we have some younger participants. Discussing sexual behavior of LDS leaders, past or present, will not be allowed.Suicide threats. If you are suicidal, please seek professional help. We sincerely care about you, but we can't allow threads of this nature. Not everyone will have the sensitivity you need and they might actually make things worse. This is not a free speech board. It's a respectful speech board. We want participation from LDS and non-LDS people. Mocking LDS beliefs will drive away LDS members. This means:Do not use offensive terms for things we hold sacred.Do not post temple content or links to temple content.Do not use nicknames for LDS leaders. Example: Calling Joseph Smith "Joe" is not acceptableDo not post anything else you know is meant to do nothing more than push others' buttons.Libel is not tolerated and you may be held legally accountable.LDS members: You are expected to show the same level of courtesy to other faiths as we want participation from non-LDS people.Reporting Posts to ModeratorsReport a post if it is spam or violates any of the above. If there are a series of objectionable posts from one person in a single thread, you only need to report one post. It calls our attention to the whole thread.Do not report the same post twice.Do not report posts simply because you don't like someone's opinion. You may instead respectfully disagree with them.Private messages that are harassing or violate other board rules may also be reported. When reported, the message appears in a report folder and when necessary, we can access all logs in our database of private exchanges. We are telling you this for your security. Your Personal ResponsibilityExercise good judgment. Don't give out too much personal information about yourself and don't assume you know anyone well enough on this message board to do so. Any reasonable person will understand if you don't want to provide more details about yourself than you are comfortable with.Don't ask us to ban you. You are responsible for what you post and the amount of time you spend here. Do not ask us to delete your account or any material you may have posted here. This would be against the agreement you made at registration in which you gave us permission to use it. Social Hall and The Chat roomThese two areas are only for friendly discussion. If you use them to argue, you will lose your privileges. We hope this will be a positive and friendly atmosphere for everyone to discuss topics of interest. VideoGameJunkie Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 How do we go about appealing being put on limited status? I was never even told why I was made limited account either.
why me Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) How do we go about appealing being put on limited status? I was never even told why I was made limited account either. This board is not the lds church. In the lds church if one is disfellowshipped, the person may be allowed full membership for good behavior. I do believe that being put on limited does last a lifetime. Of course there have been a couple of exceptions but.... And of course being put on limited does give you more time to be with family, friends, and more time to enjoy the real world. It can be a blessing for some. Also, think of the poor moderators. I am sure that many wish they were also put on limited. Not easy to lurk the board 24/7. Some are posting on this board under a screen name and also doing the moderating. Edited September 11, 2015 by why me

Cinepro alone has been banned at least twice. There may be others. But I've never seen anyone come back to full Member from being Limited. As to the Moderator vs Member thing, I've seen at least one Mod post that sounded like the Mod had thought he/she was posting using his/her member identity -- and didn't catch it in time to do something about it. Like delete the post. On my own, now mostly moribund forum, I know I've gotten mixed up between Moderator and Member a few times. Edited September 11, 2015 by Stargazer
Tacenda Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Limiting me is a good thing, alot of what I say, I wish I hadn't. The only drawback is never being able to give rep points. But luckily I'm not banned from threads like I use to. This board is dear to me, or I should say...the people on it.

Cinepro alone has been banned at least twice. There may be others. But I've never seen anyone come back to full Member from being Limited. Yes, this is true. Pahoran was brought back because a very important poster was going to leave the board. Good to have friends. California kid was taken off limited when I was put on limited. One poster made an emotional plea to be put back as a full member but that poster was ignored. I could never be a mod. I am a softie. I also think that eveyone deserves a second chance. Also, there are some long time posters now on limited. These posters defended the church through 3 board changes. So, the club is not so bad.
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 What irritated me was I felt I was put on limited for no reason. I don't know what I did and it was never explained to me. I just want to start threads.
Calm Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 That may be the problem. From what I've seen many of the limited were put on limited shortly after starting a number of threads.Too many new threads leads to lost discussions as they move to the second page. You might want to look at that as a possibility by checking your content.
DragonLancer Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) I would like to submit a complaint against Nehor. He continually pollutes threads with personal jabs against me in particular, on threads that I have posted, to the point that he has made numerous comments of personal attacks against me and my work that are without foundation. This has gotten to the point where he has become an extreme nuisance that I believe that should no longer be tolerated by the moderators of this forum. I ask that he be banned from this forum. Calm Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) Have you reported him using the report function? Mods will likely respond better to that process than demanding a banning here.I would suggest also using the ignore function if you find someone you would rather not read.
