How are you holding up?

Oh, ok, I guess.  After the enforced organization required of me in getting the funeral organized and geographically-distant relatives here and back again, now that everything has drawn down to a state of calm I am at loose ends.  When your life has revolved around a person and that person is gone and won't come back, suddenly being centerless, it is more than a little confusing and unnerving.  I was going to take a great circle trip and visit the Grand Canyon and suchlike, but I'm finding it hard to get all my jets firing in the same direction.

I wasn't like this before I married her (despite having more than a touch of ADD), so why am I like this now?  Buckling down and flying straight seems like quite the challenge at the moment.

Hello Stargazer...

Let me be encouraging to you... what you are experiencing is pretty much true to course upon losing a loved one, particularly a spouse... when I lost my husband, I was advised not to make any major decisions, or purchases, etc etc for a least a year... to give myself time to settle emotionally and mentally, including judgment.

What you are feeling will straighten out in time, hopefully soon, and you will get your bearings and be able to feel more positive each day.  You're in my prayers... just take each day... stay close to the Spirit and you will find inner strength.

All good wishes... GG

Yes, major decisions.  Fortunately, I don't have any I could make right now.  Well, did I promise myself that I would buy a new desktop computer as a "cheer me up" gift to myself after all the hub-bub was over.  I don't think it will cheer me up all that much, but whatever.  And I did decide to take a 2 week vacation and actually go somewhere, as soon as possible.  I'm already on the vacation, but so far haven't gone anywhere except my brother's house in Portland for the weekend.  I got to follow him around his stake buildings as he set up for their stake conference -- he's one of their A/V technicians.  It was a really nice conference.  And now I have a bad cold with a cough, and don't want to drive long distances feeling like this.  If it's not one thing it's another.

Hey, you know what?  My vacation was supposed to be a lazy drive down southwards to visit the Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater in Arizona, and all points in between, but this darned cold is really messing up my timetable.  I was going to drive through your neck of the woods and check the place out, since it sounds like a good retirement community.  I might not have any time for it, now.

I can't even imagine.

I can't even imagine.

Neither can I!

My great circle trip has been postponed because I came down with a bad cold and I just don't feel like driving long distances feeling like I do right now.

Your cold is a common thing after the death of a loved one, especially when you are heavily involved in the care of her. You may find yourself getting sick more than normal. I know it can be a hard thing, but really try to eat well, get enough sleep and exercise so you can combat those things. Taking care of yourself physically will help your mental, emotional and spiritual self as well.

For the past two nights I've finally been able to sleep an entire night through.  This is the first time since a month and a half or more.

So, a little progress.
