As a long time resident Catholic here, I have occasionally represented myself as being banned from Catholic Answers. But it seems that I have retained the ability to post under my own name, which I changed to something else around 2011. Since my banning, I go look around in what they call the "Traditional" forum like every four or five months for just a few seconds out of boredom. But who do I see there tonight? A very good fellow many of you know and appreciate here. I have met him twice in real life but its been a long time. I last posted in 2010 or 2011 over there under my own name. It has probably been longer than that since he and I met at Shari's for breakfast in Portland, OR.

I wanted to admit, especially if anyone here should happen to see this post, and knowing my name which isn't very secret here, that I have now posted there for the first time in a long time. I am still banned under a more recent name. I had changed it a while back, as I mentioned. Before Robert Smith came along and started in on the value of our real names, I thought I didn't want to use my real name. I don't mind anymore. It is possible that I have broken with internet etiquette by reverting to an old and almost forgotten "title", but I was compelled to reply to my old friend. It is also probable that I will now be banned under every title I might think of! I don't mind. I just hope I get my friend's attention.

That is one of the worst things of getting banned - we lose those relationships we have begun with people.  I think I used two different names there, but both were banned for separate reasons.  Like you I still visit irregularly just to see what is going on, but move on easily without sensing any need to participate.

May you have the same luck/blessings that I had coming back here.  I hope you get hooked back up with your friend

Getting banned or suspended hurts.  I was suspended for 2 months at Catholic Answers for simply saying to Catholics what they said to Mormons.  Then I get an email asking me to donate Catholic Answers.  lol

Anyway, I hope you find good here.  I hope you find some peace.

If there were petitions to sign and articles to be declared, I'd support the ones that keep you unbanned.

I really don't like it when people are banned. To never "see" them again or read their insights ever again. It's a bummer.

Thanks saemo. I appreciate that.

I really don't mind being banned given how somebody like me can't say much there anyway. There was a period, maybe 2010 or 11, when it was like there was a thaw, and you could talk somewhat favorably about the Society of St. Pius X. Something changed. They started banning and deleting posts all of a sudden. It had nothing to do with offensive or aggressive behavior. It was obvious that some policy decision was made to get rid of those proposing ideas that help support a defense for the actions of Abp. Marcel Lefebvre. They still have inquirers all the time. There is seldom a time when there isn't one or more threads in the Traditional Forum asking questions about the Society. Many serious Catholics want what Society chapels and priories offer, but Catholic Answers has decided not to be an instrument that will allow the faithful who wish, to communicate with us.

Rory!

I thought I would say hey here in the Social Forum. I am just a phone call away if you have not misplaced my number (and I expect our beach bum friend has it if you do not).

My son is following in your son's footsteps (kind of). He will be up near you on his mission. His area is in Washington, but no long stretch of beach is part of it.

Rory, anonymity is important for those of us with opinions that drive the more unbalanced among us to acts of insanity.  Those of us who are polite and kind to all with whom we interact with perhaps don't need it so much.  That would include you.  Pahoran, on the other hand, definitely needs to be anonymous (although he is banned now so THAT's moot -- and I sorrow that his grating but delightful voice will not be heard, unless he gets a reprieve like cinepro has).

I'm perfectly anonymous under my real name, which is so common.

My real handle is Mike Clark.  There are a million of us in the US alone, I believe.
