TJUSS Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I know I may be seen as a horrible person, but I have been seeking a church. I have a friend, (former coworker), who invited me to his church for a guided tour. He was there with me as well as about 5 other LDS missionaries. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit/tour. It lasted, maybe, an hour showing me different rooms of the church, asking my views and them telling me theirs. I was then given a copy of the Book of Mormon. I was told to read it and see if the message stood right out at me and experiencing anything. I couldn't get through all of it and I didn't understand a message or anything. I really wanted to attend this church, but after the tour and being given the Book, I couldn't go in empty handed. Please, if anyone could help me...or something... It would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I've failed my friend and the people who were nice enough to take time out of their evening for me.. Thank you.

We really want people to come after all. Plenty of people on this board to talk to you about our Church. Feel free to ask questions. It doesn't matter how basic.

I promise you, jjust the fact that you came out to church has already made your friend very happy. As for a pointer: For starters, just read the introduction to the Book of Mormon (not the Book of Mormon itself) and write down any simple questions that may pop in your mind as you read. Then put the written questions in your pocket for reference the next time you see your friend or go to church with him. Even if you just read one page of the introduction and come up with only one question to ask, that will be enough to bring joy and satisfaction to your friend -- I guarantee it, Edited March 8, 2015 by Bobbieaware 1

Robert F. Smith Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Some people claim that the basic message of the Book of Mormon is to be a second witness, after the Bible, of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. That is the real meaning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which both books preach. Everything else is just commentary or ornamentation. 3
Garden Girl Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Hello TJUSS...I guess I don't know what you mean when you say you couldn't go in empty handed...The message of the Book of Mormon is that Jesus is the Christ... a second witness in addition to the Bible.One of my favorite parts is King Benjamin's sermon to his people...beginning in Mosiah, Chapter 2 (page 147) and going through Chapter 5 (page 159)... It is a beautiful sermon and still relevant today; I think you will enjoy it.My other favorite part is after his resurrection when Christ visited this hemisphere and taught his gospel to the people... and established his Church...beginning with 3 Nephi. Chap 11 (as suggested by Avatar), (page 427) through Chapter 27 (Page 460)These are chapters which really touch my heart,,, and again the message is about the Savior... The above two references, Mosiah and 3 Nephi are more applicable in a practical sense to us... with many teachings that we can use in our lives... I hope you will read these chapters... GG

Thank you.How much did you read, from page one it is all about faith, in the second book 2 Nephi it is filled with the teachings of Christ, faith, fidelity, courage, forgiveness, love and enduring to the end in each. Try 2 Nephi chapters 9 & 10, there you will find the greatest sermon and writing on the atonement ever penned by man. Read Mosiah chapters 1-5 and learn how good and faithful being with the aid of Jesus Christ. Heck...all of this is on every page.
