rodheadlee Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 President Obama quoted Exodus 22:21 in his speech yesterday regarding Immigration Reform. it's available on various news sources. 21 ¶Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. I was impressed with his talk. it really is a shame the Dems and Repubs can't work together and the Repubs just seek to thwart him or attempt to strip him of power. It is disheartening we can't be one as a nation.it's the only way we can accomplish anything of importance. Will anything but war force our politicians to work together vs holding the party line?
Tacenda Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I wanted to jump for joy after listening to Obama (NOT Osama, some compare him to that guy), in my area they hate our president. I so wanted to express your sentiments to all on FB, then retreated after seeing some posts STILL against him, such a frady cat that I am. Not to turn this political, but what Obama said was very Christian and loving. He didn't say to give them Amnesty, and he called what has been happening as Amnesty. I liked how he said to get them to come out of the woodwork, and even make some kind of restitution. My son in law is illegal, such a hard worker etc. His father brought him over along with sister and brother. He has never used the government for anything. No Medicaid or free healthcare, nothing. We're fortunate that he and my daughter haven't had to have critical care or anything. His being illegal has definitely limited my daughter and grand kids lives. And my son in law, hasn't been with his mom since he was 17 or 18, his dad is no longer around and probably back in Mexico and not with his mom. My son in law is now 40!! I pray for the day he and his mom can reunite, and hope President Obama can get this going. Our country's representatives have made this personal, it's time to put our personal views aside. And put this to the Americans to vote on. Or whatever process is needed to get the ball rolling. Thanks for giving me hope Rodheadlee, I was starting to believe the whole of the USA won't listen to Obama no matter what he does, good or bad. Garden Girl Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I don't dare write what I think about this, particularly his using scripture, as it would get this thread shut immediately as being too political. I'm simply reminded of, and refer you to, recent news stories about the lengths and methods used to sell Obamacare to the "stupid" American public... GG

To paraphrase - And there was not anything done or said save for political reasons.
Calm Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I am not in anyway attributing this to Obama...it just struck me as amusing....“The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose. An evil soul producing holy witnessIs like a villain with a smiling cheek,A goodly apple rotten at the heart.O, what a goodly outside falsehood hath!”Shakespeare

GGBelieve me there are plenty of valid reasons not to support some President Obama's actions as President. I certainly don't. But on this one he is correct. It is perfectly in line with what Presidents from Eisenhower on down have done on immigration. Of course you are entitled to own opinion. However President Obama is a Christian and has every right to quote OT Bible Scripture particularly in context. Which he did. bluebell Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Rod, I think you hit the nail on the head in regards to the political parties in our country being unable to work together. Compromise is a wonderful invention. It's the only reason we have a government in the first place as the constitution is the poster child for compromise. People from both parties need to get off their high horses and stop making being right their biggest objective.
