The Confusion Is Over, Women's Meeting Is Now Part Of General Conference

I think because of the traveling concerns it would be better to have it on the same weekend.

Replace the second Saturday General session with the Women's session.

That gives time for the women to get back home or hotel and for the men to go to the priesthood session.

yep--better proposal than I offered by shortening the priesthood, keeping at the same time currently, tossing in the women's session at 4 pm taking out Sat morning session start the afternoon session earlier.

The only confusion anyone had was from those who want to find excuses to complain. They have always been part of general conference. Hence the reason they have always been included in the conference report issue of church magazines.

seriously you people go out of your way to find issues that simply dont exist. Wouldn't it be far not producing to develop spiritual gifts?

Actually, I think it a misnomer to apply the term "general" to either the women's meeting or the priesthood session.

If one or the other sex is excluded, it is not by definition a general session.

I've had similar qualms about the term "Priesthood Session" since it's been made clear that "men are not the priesthood." It would be more accurate to call it a "Meeting of Priesthood Holders."  While somewhat wordy and awkward, its more accurate, just like our stake now encourages bishoprics to "thank the holders of the Aaronic priesthood" rather than "thank the priesthood" after the sacrament is done.

I'll be sure to raise both your concern and mine next time I meet with the First Presidency.

If the issue wasn't important, why did church administration bleep out the prayer that said "fourth session" and why has the newsroom gone back and forth on the issue? For me, personally, I could care less. But apparently other members, including high-up leaders, care about the name of this meeting.

I really do find it interesting that so many strong members of the church are falling over themselves to express how little they care about an issue that the First Presidency has written about. I would think that, even if they didn't care before, the fact that the Prophet and his counselors took the time to write this letter would give them at least a little pause to consider "hey, maybe this matters?" But maybe the conservative members of the church don't care about the Prophet's views any more than the liberals. Maybe we're all just using him as a proof-text to support our preferred views.

If this meeting and the Young Women's meeting has always been a part of GC then it makes me wonder why those talks hadn't ever been used to teach from in RS and priesthood meetings on the fourth Sunday, or why they were never assigned to be used by the speakers in sacrament meeting.

Beyond that, I've never heard of anyone considering the Young Women's meeting a part of general conference but it's cool that you did.

Fourth Sunday talks are at the discretion of the bishop. Ask him.

I think it's usually the stake president, but regardless it is interesting that these meetings have always been a part of GC without very many people actually knowing that.

I guess I am a really narrow minded fool.  Men have a single meeting where men are asked to attend.  This is not enough for women; they are different; they are more demanding, they are more special; they need an entire day that is somehow attuned tot their "special needs".  What is it about women that they are so needy that they require something that requires a weekend of meetings just of them that allows them to feel special, needed, and wanted.

I cannot tell you how tired I am of this entire gender issue.  General Conference is not enough for women to feel satisfied; they need an entire week for themselves.  Are men just so stupid they don't realize they need more or is it something else?

I guess that I am a calloused, insensitive bore, that is incapable of understanding that women are so unique they need something different that is unique to themselves.  Not just a single meeting is good enough, but we need to devote an entire day to their needs that are so far beyond everyone else that we just don't understand.

I freely admit that I don't understand what all goes into the feminine mystique, but I can tell you that I am very tired of it.  I am tired of pandering to the incessant demand that women need something more to feel special.  At some point we need to look at the situation and say it is not us that is the problem.

I apologize in advance; it is just a pet peeve.  Women are no more spiritual, not more needy than anyone else.  They are a part of the human race and I am tired of the squeaky wheel.  I freely admit that I am an Neanderthal.  I am not nearly as evolved as others; I don't understand how superior women are to men.  I freely admit that we are different and have different callings, but I am beyond patience with the constant whining.  I return you to your normal broadcasting where all is well in Zion and excuse myself from my extreme ignorance.

Perhaps you are confusing BYU Women's conference which goes for 2 days with the General Relief Society Meetings?
