JLHPROF Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Had a very good lesson recent where a certain scripture was brought up as pertains to prayer: D&C6:16 - Yea, I tell thee, that thou mayest know that there is none else save God that knowest thy thoughts and the intents of thy heart. I suppose I had always known this intellectually. Even the evangelicals teach that only God is omniscient. But perhaps, like me, you have always felt like EVERYONE on the other side of the veil knows your mind and thoughts - the angels, the adversary, our ancestors, etc. We had quite a good discussion as to how Satan is able to tempt us so accurately if he doesn't know our thoughts and mind. One person felt that it was because Satan (Lucifer) knew us well before the fall at the time of the council and remembers each of our weaknesses. We also wondered about the angels who keep the records as many believe or whether it is truly only God that keeps the record (1 John 5:7 ). So, even if you already understood that God is the ONLY one that can know our thoughts, do you truly believe that God is the ONLY one that can see your thoughts?
WysteriaBlue Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) I think that Satan is cunning, insidious, smart, intuitive and evil...If we believe that his followers are around us and tempting natural man all the time and can easily see our uneasiness in certain circumstances, our hesitations, hear our words said in haste or anger, see our frustrations, see our eyes wander, mumbled apologies, behaviours that we wish we had not done or heard our pleas for mercy or understanding... I don't think we have the pure countenances and unemotional masks that we think we must in order to fool the devil and or his minions. Again, that it why I pray for forgiveness, to try harder, to be more patient, to be more chaste, for understanding and why we take communion to help us clean up our act as we are faced daily with temptation, strife and pain and so that the cumulative missteps we make do not overpower us. Yes, I do think that God is omnicent and also forgiving and gave us free agency for a reason...but I don't think that Satan is not looking nor forgiving nor unprepared to put more temptations in front of us... Be a little patient with yourself and others. We are mortal and trying and God will see and know how hard we all try (or don't) and will take all into account. That is why He/Jesus has the power of judgment and thank goodness not your wife, your boss, your kids or those that try your patience... Love is the answer to anger and acrimony and hate. VideoGameJunkie Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I know the angels can see our actions, which makes me sad when I sin because I'm not just letting God and Jesus down, but angels are witnessing my sins as well.
Silhouette Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I don't believe that anyone but God knows our thoughts or the intents of our hearts. As someone has mentioned, the adversary can discern some things from observing our actions and hearing what we say, but I believe he is totally incapable of reading minds or knowing the intent of our hearts.
Sanpitch Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 This is a subject that I don't understand. I have strong LDS siblings and other relatives and they sometimes talk of God knowing our thoughts and actions. I'm much less strong in the faith. How does any power listen or record the thoughts of a few billion people constantly? Does God just pay attention to LDS and ignore all the others, even at that there are at least five million active LDS that the prayers need to be listened to. How does all this work? As far as I'm concerned it's impossible for any super being.

God can follow our lives from birth to death with more attention then we can and does it for everyone.
CV75 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 So, even if you already understood that God is the ONLY one that can know our thoughts, do you truly believe that God is the ONLY one that can see your thoughts?Yes, and I also think He judiciously shares what He sees with others as necessary for Him to warn and protect His children and to carry out His work and glory. He shares by way of a number of spiritual gifts and by power of the Holy Ghost.
Avatar4321 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Yes. Though sometimes God reveals it to others. Sometimes we leave our thoughts written all over our faces so it's easy to guess
