How Is It ...

How is it that Topic Titles are so controlled as to NOT allow multiple caps. It seems that by default the first letter of each word is capitalized. So, when I type NWAF, it results in Nwaf. I'm sure that there is a single administrative forum switch that could allow users (like me) to responsibly represent their Topic Titles. Please flip that "responsibility" switch. Thanks.

Its an anti yelling.  We can't take it off due to abuse we have had in the passed.  And its one switch that controls it all.  Sorry.

There is a real difference between sensible emphasis and YELLING. While forum participants should understand what YELLING is, adopting forum rules that preclude real, sensible communication is unnecessary. Those who in fact YELL can be responsibly moderator-warned, via PMs, or however. The need for USA to be displayed as Usa, or NWAF to be displayed as Nwaf, or ... short-circuits meaningful communication ... and is unnecessary. Period.

I can't help but note that my YELLING (two instances) in my former post is allowed, yet NWAF in a thread title is unnecessarily abbreviated to Nwaf. Seriously, can't we fix this? A serious forum is about responsible communication. Those who interchange responsibly should be allowed to do so ... responsibly. Those who don't should be adequately warned.

We could, after all, post in Morse code (which doesn't support textual emphasis, or YELLING).

How about just putting in spacing…N W A F…awkward, but workable.

I think the yelling referred to is in the title.  I do remember there were people who would type thread titles all in capitals for attention or laziness and it was very annoying looking at them on the thread title page listing.

Are those people still here and posting? My $.02 is that it's worth making "No all caps titles" a forum rule and flipping the switch, because I find the auto-capitalization annoying (especially when I try to be respectful and type BOM or BoM and it becomes Bom). If there really are that many people who would violate the rule and make life that much more annoying for the mods, then they can flip the switch back.

Yes, the mods could police it but why should they have to?

They have more important things to do like remove male enhancement ad threads, ban sock puppets, and kick me out of threads whenever I get too uppity.

Lame.

Calling something "lame" is offensive to those of us who are.  Just saying.
