4 Questions Currently On My Mind

The only issue I see is picking at nits or mountains out of mole hills.

Come on let the brethren be human for just a little while.

April 6th is a small thing.  Claiming divine knowledge by revelation for a community of believers when no revelation has been given, and then rather than acknowledging that to claim such was likely incorrect, but instead reinforceing it.  And then doing so with 5 sources that each seem to either draw back to the original place the false assumption was made or claim community knowledge with no source of revelaton given as the source where we as a community can gather such known facts does seem problematic to me.  We can say it is picking at nits or nats but for me it is a serious discussion about claiming knowledge that most members take for granted that is based on a false assumption and more importantly the the reason, whatever that was, for deciding it is best to defend it, brush it aside, and move on.

one example that may indicate there are other instances wherein we make assumptions, treat them as revelation and continually preach them as revelation.

we claimed knowledge that we do not have.

I think making accusations against the Church  follows the same pattern. Accusations are often based on incomplete knowledge (and knowledge one doesn't have), and they also facilitate a comfort level with ignorance involving other areas subject to similar condemnation.

As Elder Bednar said, “The unique burdens in each of our lives help us to rely upon the merits, mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah (see 2 Nephi 2:8). I testify and promise the Savior will help us to bear up our burdens with ease (see Mosiah 24:15). As we are yoked with Him through sacred covenants and receive the enabling power of His Atonement in our lives, we increasingly will seek to understand and live according to His will. We also will pray for the strength to learn from, change, or accept our circumstances rather than praying relentlessly for God to change our circumstances according to our will. We will become agents who act rather than objects that are acted upon (see 2 Nephi 2:14). We will be blessed with spiritual traction.”

Is celebrating Christmas and decorating temple square with thousands of lights a tacit endorsement of December 25 as Jesus birth date?

Is celebrating Christmas and decorating temple square with thousands of lights a tacit endorsement of December 25 as Jesus birth date?

I would say NOT.

If I had been born when my family were out in the wilderness and had lost track of the date, and consequently nobody knew when I was born, but were reasonably certain that I had been born in 1951, before winter set in, then I might comfortably consider the autumnal equinox as the date I chose to celebrate my birth, would so celebrating it give tacit endorsement that September 23 is my birthdate? Not at all.

Here is one of many.  Do a Google search and take your pick.

From the website ERayR provided:

"No, Christmas is the Pagan festival whose date was borrowed by the early Christians since it was a popular date.

Jesus the Christ was most likely born in April. There is not a lot of scriptural data for this, but scientists have used computers to see where the stars were in the sky back then in that general time, and it turns out that a totally unbelievable group of stars and planets were lined up with each other in April in the year He was assumed born.

The alignment of these stars and planets would have been nearly as bright as the moon.

*Those scientists should have checked the bible for info because that would be the first place I would look. I probably know more about jesus christ then them and I'm eleven!"

Meg answered:  accouly his birth day is on jenuary 1st! why do you think we have ne years eve? the fuy part about this is that im smater the those sciicetes combi ad im 10!

ERayR,

I c/p the answer above from the website you provided.  Looks like the answer about April being Jesus' birthday is from an 11 year old girl, but hey, maybe she's a child prodigy.

But I saw another one that looked interesting too.  :)

ETA:  Yes, I celebrate Christmas and even Easter!  I don't know for a fact that Jesus was born April 6th.  I'd like it if He were since my mom was born on that day too!  And I'm conceding that it's a real possibility that He did and someone got revelation that He did!

In case you missed it April 6 is as good as any.  Take your pick.  It is, at this point, irrelevant.  Somebody opined, it sounded good but was not significant enough to worry about.  However, some do like their drama.
