Who Owns The Word 'mormon'?

Not at all the same.....  Both Christian and Catholic are names in which MANY "Groups" use to refer to themselves, and have forever, well before "Trademarks" existed.

Also, LDS isn't the same either, because it's not actually a "name" it's abreviated letters which can refer to many things, thus not trademarkable in the same sense.

Thus, you would be wrong.

No need for belligerence.

Please check your "belligerance", there was no "belligerance" in my post.  Stating something is wrong is not belligerance.

Mods.  Please correct this person for trying to cause a fight..

Thus and thus with great thusness.

Also, are you a trademark lawyer? You seem to speak with a great tone of authority.

Okay, but I don't like to, not in the habit of being a tattle tale.

I only mentioned it because I've seen people get banned here for simply addressing personal attacks made at them, so I was trying to avoid saying much to the person, and just let the mods handle it.

No, just well familar given the various kinds of work I do that need to know those kinds of things.

No need for belligerence.

Posting factual information on a discussion board is akin to aggressive or warlike behavior?

That's a new twist.

Some people strangly consider being informed as wrong about anything as actually a negative and disrespectful attack, rather than just being informed and corrected.

Maybe I could have been "kinder and gentler" and instead said "thus that would be wrong" instead of "thus you are wrong", but such is life and language.  Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

If people can't even take the lightest of criticism, then maybe they need to be elsewhere?  The world contains much worse.

No how you post it is what determines, in your face aggressiveness, had he politely left off  "thus you are wrong" it would not have come off as nasty as it did.   I originally went to message boards like this to counter experiences IRL, posts like this don't go very far in countering those experiences so in order to further a pleasant view of people  I have fixed it and  I will not be interacting with him any longer.

On topic, personally I don't see why the church should be upset about this, the name Mormon Match lets non-members know that these are active LDS members who are looking to meet the same.  And frankly I just don't think that members of your church are so stupid that they can't figure out that this is a commercial site, not one run by the church itself.

I think we will just have to wait and see how the court rules on this one.
