Is This A Real Flyer Or A Spoof (Mormonsandgays.org)?

Iirc the idea was to print them up and put them on bulletin boards in churches. Given how they use the Church's copyright trademark rather than a spoof, it is a fraud, isn't it?

Can't remember if the only purpose was to convey the idea SSM was acceptable (wedding ring shown) or the scan code would take someone to a nonLDS site.

Good point, I didn't realise they were designed for a "guerrilla" campaign in churches. Thanks for the clarification.

If it is a spoof, it is one where they used the official logo or listing of the Church. Those who have SSA, may not choose how they feel, but we all (no matter how we feel) choose how we act. In this case they choose to break the law, by making it appear that it is indeed a Church publication. Spoof are supposed to be funny, not criminal. Looks like something Bill Mahr would do...only he hates all faiths equally. But at least he is funny at times and always consistent in his hated of believers.

What happens when you scan the code? Everything else about it actually looks legit (website and all).  I'm curious now if the scan code take you to a different website or not.

If I had a scanner on my phone, I would have already and wouldn't bother asking

the "Day" in Latter-day Saints is capitalized. That is not the official logo. I say spoof, it is not from the church.

At the bottom? The letters are all caps and look identical to the Church's website as far as I can tell.

Copyright on the poster is 2013.

I don't have any scanning capability for those square things. Does it route anywhere? Is this another UTLM v. Wyatt thing? . . . :)

Must be a spoof.  The church's position is that persons who experience same-sex attraction should not perform any actions that further the attraction.  Thus, while BYU no longer expels students just for being gay, the university may take actions if gay students hold hands, kiss, or otherwise show affection.  I can't imagine that the image included in this ad - two men showing affection typical of married heterosexuals - would appear on a church publication.

Edit to add:  also, at least one of the men in the picture has a wedding ring.  No way that would make it past correlation.

a google image search reveals

"Montclair couple threatens lawsuit after their photo is used in anti-gay mailer

Montclair couple Brian Edwards and Tom Privitere were shocked to find that one of their engagement photos was being used unlawfully in attack adds against a Colorado senator. In the ad, sponsored by Public Advocate of the United States, the men are removed from their original backdrop of a New York skyline, and instead appear amidst a snowy Colorado setting with the tagline, "State Sen. Jean White's Idea of 'Family Values?'" Now the couple, along with their photographer are taking action."

a discussion title "I did it" about this flyer was on reddit about 8months, so I think it is pretty much shown to be a spoof. Though, I am surprised the "spoof" QR code takes directs to mormonsandgays.org
