Graduating From Cfr: Graham's Hierarchy Of Disagreement

thank you much . what is the proper way to respond to a CFR? a hyperlink? is it that important? why is a guy claiming to be banned over a cfr?

 

If you don't back your statement up, you must retract it. If you presented it as a fact. No CFR for opinions.

 

 

I can't help but think we should "graduate" from enforcing 'CFR' on each other to grading our assertions using Graham's Hierarchy of Disagreement:

 

 

Thus we can move on from waiting and punishing for a CFR or lack thereof to simply downgrading the 'offending' assertion to, say, a Contradiction as opposed to a Counterargument.

To be honest the CFR policy on this forum is rather lame. Who really cares if one provides a reference anyway? If they do- great, if they dont, google it yourself.

It looks to me like the top three would be considered legitimate responses to a CFR.

I like the CFR policy, it helps in the process of dealing with unreasonable critics.

I don't think there should be an enforced board policy for CFR but i do believe it to be incumbent on the poster to provide evidence or admit they don't have any at the moment or it was anecdotal etc. in terms of civil debate.  That's why I suggested Graham's Hierarchy where one could easily dismiss an unreferenced assertion as merely Contradiction as opposed to something better.  Dismissing an unreferenced assertion should be good enough for most people and once I have so dismissed, I feel no obligation to engage in a series of back and forth posts of 'yes it is' and 'no it isn't'.  I feel the general reader understands and hence I don't have to get in the last word. Ignoring posts one doesn't like or don't further advance the discussion should be the only kind of moderation taking place other than spam or vulgarity.
