mfbukowski Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 What many do not understand is that Xmas day was not actually the birthday of Jesus, who (as the Book of Mormon proves) was clearly born on 1 Tishri of the Jewish calendar in 5 B.C., which is Rosh HaShana (New Year's Day) in the Autumn.What about all the April 6th beliefs?

The death of an old woman in India whom I don't know has no significance until I am her son. It happens hundred of thousands of times daily. "Things" don't "happen", we have experiences which we tie into other experiences and associate them with what we have learned before. The significance-giving business happens within us. Bennett to start preaching "spiritual wives" at the same time the Lord introduced polygamy to the Church. The same reason that the Spaulding Manuscript was written around the time the Book of Mormon was published.The same reason that Joseph Smith learned masonry around the same time as restoring the endowment. God wants to see if we can recognize his real hand from the false pretenders. He wants to test our spiritual reasoning and understanding in addition to our faith to ask him. And Jim Harmston was as classic an example of a modern John C. Bennett as you will ever see. He mixed his own false doctrines with the fundamentalist teachings that originated with Joseph & Brigham and fooled those who didn't have an understanding of correct principles.Simply put, he died when he did not because he was a true prophet, but to see if people would fall for it because they lack understanding or the faith to ask. where do you get the idea that the spaulding manuscript was written at the same time the Book of Mormon was published? My point was that counterfeits always seem to appear whenever truth is revealed - and it was brought up in Mormonism Unveiled in 1834, 4 years after the church was founded. Truth restored, fake alternative appears.

Lehi left Jerusalem in the first year of the reign of Zedekiah, and the prophecy was that 600 years from that time Jesus would be born. The only year sequence which can cover that period of time is the Mesoamerican Long Count of 360-day years, which gets us from 597 to 5 B.C. rather nicely. We know that Jesus was crucified at Passover (April) in Jerusalem. Since that is not in question, we can count the time until his birth by backtracking via the Long Count. Using 360-day years loses 6 months of solar year time in the 33 years which the Book of Mormon says Jesus lived, so that he had to have been born in the Autumn during one of the two pilgrim festivals of the Jews (New Year & high holy days, or Tabernacles).As it happens, the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Christmas and New Year liturgy are taken from the Fall calendar of the Jews. By the 4th century Christianity had moved the liturgy to Winter solstice in order to absorb the pagan celebration of Sol Invictus and Yuletide.

I had never caught that there was a conflict between the BOM and the April 6th stuff! Maybe now, with all the Mormons who are accountants, we should move April conference past April 15 since there is no reason to keep it around the 6th anymore. Any He does control, by definition, are not coincidental. So the proper interpretation of coincidences is that there is no connection between them at all. God does not exercise control over our thoughts. Our thoughts be colored by superstition or science, or by any other source of credulity, including His light and Spirit. The reason God has set up our probationary estate in this manner is self-explanatory. The test is against His standard, and its passing is found in the benefits of His Atonement.
