savedbygrace Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 What has surprised me is the emotional link I feel with people I have never met. Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse. Thanks Cal, that is a lovely sentiment and I really do believe that God used my deceased family to bring me to my faith.
Garden Girl Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 What has surprised me is the emotional link I feel with people I have never met.I had a wonderful experience while doing baptisms for my step-dad's family... one of his sisters whom I hardly knew at all...but as I was baptized for his family females, her name came up and as I came up out of the water I suddenly burst into almost sobs... I was so surprised at how I was overcome with emotion with this one woman, that I looked up at the recorder and between sobs sort of shrugged and said... I don't know why I feel this way... and he looked down at me and said... That's all right sister, it happens all the time. To this day I can't explain it but at that moment I had felt so close to her. I like to think it was because she was so happy to have the ordinance on her behalf... GG 1
USU78 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 My great-great-great grandfather lived near Stoke-on-Trent, where all the English pottery is made. Seems he, as apprentice, spent a couple of days making a particularly tricky bowl for a titled client of the firm. When he was finished and and Master examined it, all decked out in frock coat and laquered walking stick, the latter smashed it to bits with his stick. After he landed a serious right cross on the Master's pie-hole, my GGG fled to Wales, not knowing whether he'd killed him, married a local girl, and later met the missionaries. Such an inspiring tale! 4
Duncan Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Thank you. I use it everyday. no problem! hope all goes well! 1

savedbygrace Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 It is truly amazing how we can feel an affinity to our deceased relatives, and it is strange how you can feel a special bond to certain of them, it's almost as though they are prompting you to learn their story.

Ron Beron Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 It is truly amazing how we can feel an affinity to our deceased relatives, and it is strange how you can feel a special bond to certain of them, it's almost as though they are prompting you to learn their story.Joseph Smith once said, and it has moved me greatly that“I saw Adam in the valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman. He called together his children and blessed them with a patriarchal blessing. The Lord appeared in their midst, and he (Adam) blessed them all, and foretold what should befall them to the latest generation. “This is why Adam blessed his posterity; he wanted to bring them into the presence of God. They looked for a city, etc., [’whose builder and maker is God’—Heb. 11:10]. Moses sought to bring the children of Israel into the presence of God, through the power of the Priesthood, but he could not. In the first ages of the world they tried to establish the same thing; and there were Eliases raised up who tried to restore these very glories, but did not obtain them; but they prophesied of a day when this glory would be revealed. Paul spoke of the dispensation of the fullness of times, when God would gather together all things in one, etc. [see Ephesians 1:10]; and those men to whom these keys have been given, will have to be there; and they without us cannot be made perfect. “These men are in heaven, but their children are on the earth. Their bowels yearn over us. God sends down men for this reason. ‘And the Son of Man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that give offense and them that do iniquity.’ [Matthew 13:41.] All these authoritative characters will come down and join hand in hand in bringing about this work. “ 3

GG Had a similar experience doing an endowment, but for someone I've never heard of and of no relation. Only thing I remember is, he was French. The moment I spoke his name I felt the most amazing sense of cheer, goodwill and joy, and it went on all the way through to the end. Amazing. 1
Nathair/|\ Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) I'm a descendant of King John (the one in the Robin Hood story and the one that signed the Magna Carta). That doesn't mean I can be king since I'm not related to Sophia of Hanover. But they have a pedigree chart all the way back to Adam. It is kind of fun to read. I recently discovered that the third wife of my great-great-great grandfather is a great-granddaughter of President John Adams.Hi, Cousin. Nice to meet you. I'm descended from one of his younger daughters. I don't know which princess. Edited September 16, 2013 by Nathair
Buzzard Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 My favorite family line is my Norwegian one, even though I'm about 80% British. The Norwegian line ties into Scandinavian royalty, and thus proves that I am a direct descendant of Thor, though my personality would fit Loki the trickster better, I think.. Family History can be fun!
rodheadlee Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I'm related to the Dalton gang. Am I supposed to try and do their Temple work? I would guess so.

Garden Girl Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Thor was the son of Odin and Loki was Odin's blood brother. Please just don't bring on Ragnarok. Well that does it... think I'll have to watch "The Vikings" tonight (love the music... can't get it out of my mind for days). Ernest Borgnine was a perfect Ragnar. GG
Garden Girl Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Okay... I knew it! I just knew it! La Daaahh Dah.... La Daaahh Dah... La Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Daaaahh... GG
