Duncan Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 jiminy christmas, I hope things go well for their Temple groundbreaking at the end of August without these nutters
Vance Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I wonder if the response would have been the same if a nut job made the same threat against muslims.
thesometimesaint Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I wonder if the response would have been the same if a nut job made the same threat against muslims. Both would be nuts. There is a difference between stating that at some unknown time in the future some group will be destroyed because of their religion, and stating I will destroy some group because of their religion. The former is in serious need of mental health help. The latter is a threat and needs serious law enforcement.
bluebell Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I don't understand why a self proclaimed Islamic 'anything' would focus on only Mormons and Catholics. I thought that such militant Islamic people were against everything that wasn't Islam?

Now I wonder if flagging EV membership didn't just provoke this sort of thing to use fear to build their numbers? There have been threats like this over the years amongst Non-Mormon churches pretty regularly.

I thought that such militant Islamic people were against everything that wasn't Islam? This is true. I rather suspect this man is just off his meds. Islamo nuts are a very small percentage of the population. 1

The bulletin included a detailed description of his vehicle and appearance. At the ward level, we responded on Sunday by posting brethren at the entrances to the building where they could monitor the parking lot and secure the building if needed. On Monday we received additional information that he had been detained and interviewed by police. They determined that he has mental health issues but was not an imminent threat. We were still told that should he show up, we should secure the building and call 911.
ERMD Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 This is why concealed carry at church is a good idea. 2

Calm Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Isn't the most effective part of the concealed carry is the publicizing of it, thus leading people to avoid such situations where they may be stopped by carriers?
Duncan Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Isn't the most effective part of the concealed carry is the publicizing of it, thus leading people to avoid such situations where they may be stopped by carriers?or just put a sign outside the Church, "any weirdies will be probably shot on site if bro. heston has been practicing and remembers to bring his gun, he generally forgets his scriptures so who knows what today will bring" 3
ERMD Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 All I know is, the youth are more compliant if they think there's a chance the bishop is packing. 2
cdowis Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) When we have a GA visit our stake, we have members who are law enforcement sitting discreetly on the stand. But they stand out because they are big, and ugly and they focus on the audience very closely. They're clearly not members of the choir Edited August 2, 2013 by cdowis 1
thesometimesaint Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I was referring to the difference in the way the media would respond. The media have their own goals and objectives. I pretty sure the few times they actually get it right, helps much for the vast majority of times they get it wrong.
thesometimesaint Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Isn't the most effective part of the concealed carry is the publicizing of it, thus leading people to avoid such situations where they may be stopped by carriers? No it just gives more firepower to both sides. 1
ERMD Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 No it just gives more firepower to both sides.Incorrect. A CHL held by the other party does not give more firepower to the assailant. Ceding any advantage to the assailant decreases the likelihood of a positive outcome for the intended victim(s). 1

The former is in serious need of mental health help. The latter is a threat and needs serious law enforcement. I suppose you know that I could not allow your statement to pass unchallenged. There is a difference between what commercial news stations and the drug companies feed us and reality you know. I can say with some authority that the dangerous Muslims amount to probably less than 1% of the total Muslim population of around 2 billion, or around 20, million. It seems fairly certain to me that there will be a world war with the Muslims, and I hope that I am dead before it happens. Frankly, I would be at a loss as to who to defend. It is too bad that the media did not do their homework on this Denver guy. I have a strong suspicion that since the police did not really pursue him, there are other issues. Bipolar s and Schizophrenics can get really delusional, if they are not med compliant.I had an anti Muslim guy get really nasty with me tonight. It is chilling. Edited August 3, 2013 by EllenMaksoud
Calm Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 He's 32, quite possibly manic or schizophrenic....the first has an age range of onset from 15 to 30 years, average age 25, the second usually 16 to 25 in men, rarely over 30...though there is nothing said about a history of problems. It is too bad that the media did not do their homework on this Denver guy.I suspect they didn't have a chance to do so yet, just ided him on the 31st. Got to track down any doctors he might be seeing professors he might known, etc. and this is prime vacation time. As long as he is in custody, I assume there is no hurry.A former University of Northern Colorado basketball coach is the man calling himself an “Islamist jihadist” and threatening the demise of Mormons and Catholics at sites across Arizona and Colorado, authorities said Tuesday. Before being spotted by police in Steamboat Springs last week, Christopher Dewitt Craig reportedly made a stop at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Ariz. A spokesman for the institution said he didn’t believe Craig has ties there. On July 10, Craig, 32, reportedly entered a classroom at the college, raised a Bible in the air, asked the instructor whether he was Mormon and followed his response with obscenities, college spokesman Todd Haynie told the Coloradoan. Campus police later spotted him driving and pulled him over but let him go.A campus employee the same day told police Craig asked a female counselor if she was Mormon and, when she said yes, responded with derogatory statements, Haynie said. Police later contacted him at a local Walmart and arrested him on suspicion of disorderly conduct; threatening and intimidating; and interference or disruption of an educational facility. He was released from the jail in Graham County on July 16, and the district attorney didn’t file charges, Haynie said. The DA couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. Then on July 23, Steamboat Springs Police reportedly contacted Craig as he was driving while shooting video of himself wearing a white T-shirt wrapped around his head and bandana over his face. He claimed he was an “Islamic jihadist” and that everyone would know who he was in a couple of weeks, police said.He was seen two days later, on Thursday, leaving Rocky Mountain National Park but hasn’t been spotted in the Fort Collins area. Fort Collins police told the Coloradoan there is no immediate public danger. Authorities sent a memo Friday to local religious organizations warning them of the man’s alleged threats.University of Northern Colorado spokesman Nate Haas said former assistant men’s basketball coach Chris Craig is likely the same man; multiple media entities reported his former ties to the Greeley university Tuesday. According to Craig’s biography, posted on theUNC website, he joined the Bears in summer 2010 after various coaching stops in the United States and Europe.Craig left UNC in summer 2011, and campus police have no record of interaction with him. Those at the Islamic Center of Fort Collins hadn’t received any emails or calls bearing negative feedback, nor had members reported any as of Tuesday. Community leader Shakir Muhammad and others, however, are concerned Craig’s self-appointed identity could give people the wrong idea about their faith and strike out, should anyone associate their organization with Craig’s reported actions.“It’s not the belief that we (Muslims) have,” he said of the threats.Muhammad hopes for the safety of those targeted and agreed that the title “Islamist jihadist” may have prompted more public fear than if Craig had deemed himself a “disgruntled worker” or volunteer with a Catholic church.“Today, the word ‘Islamist’ does more to strike concern” than it did before 9/11 pushed it onto the national stage,” he said.
