Hauntings And What Have You-?

@Salem: that is the most common metaphysical contact with departed people. My late best friend, when his dad died, started having vivid dreams where he would enter the same plain room, sit down on the opposite side of a small table from his waiting father, who had a pot of coffee and two cups ready, and they would simply talk until the coffee was gone. My friend said this was a great comfort to him because he and his father hardly talked to each other in life and he missed that in their relationship very much. These dreams went on for a period of time, I don't remember if he said it was weeks or months. The odd thing was that my friend's oldest son, who was not yet ten years old, was having the very same kind of dreams about "grandpa". Father and son did not know this until quite a bit later when it came out in a family conversation....

I would say that encounters like the ones where a deceased family member delivering genealogy should be classed as angels rather than ghosts.

I usually discount about 90% of ghost stories because they are so dependent on human emotion, but there is some science to the paranormal...

1. Residual energy can be held by natural resources and played back at any given time especially if there is an energy source nearby such as water.

2. They could be the result of different dimensional being coming into contact.

3. They could be the portion of a remnant of a person's spirit. In other words, the spirit could go on, but a remnant of that spirit could remain. Remember, we are no long bound by natural physics.

4. Demonic influences. This is one reason I try to avoid the majority of ghost stories out there. Too many people are trying to "rustle" up the spirits of the dead only to invite other malevolent entitites into their home.

And, yes, I have seen a ghost. Freaked me out.

So, other than references to angelic ministrations and the teaching that the spirits are here but in a different dimension there does not appear to be even the slightest doctrinal foundation for ghosts.

As for those spirits who were cast out with satan, you have to consider that these guys are quite daft. They are so undisciplined and lazy that they couldn't even pass the ridiculously low bar required to get into mortality. I don't see them pulling off much more than a subtle suggestion or two. Haunting a house with spooky sounds and moving furniture (oh wait, you need a tangible body to move tangible objects) is somewhat out of their intellectual league.

It is my opinion that the 1/3 that went with Satan were not just the lunatic fringe but from the whole slice of the pie intelligence wise. I don't think that Satan alone can be responsible for all the sly ways in which men are deceived.

When my sister married in the temple, her Mother-in-Law saw several spirits in attendance. She said there was one spirit she did not recognize at the time. Then later at the reception, when we were looking at some family photots, she suddenly gasped and pointed to the photo of my brother, who had died in an accident several years before. She said he was the spirit she did not recognize in the temple.

When I see 'deceived' I read 'gullible' and 'willfully ignorant'. Nobody is truly deceived Nobody who makes a nominal effort to acknowledge the light of Christ can honestly say they had no idea adultery was a bad thing.

Cases like that I categorize as angels rather than ghosts.

I recall the scripture about the children of Adam being taught the gospel and then along comes Satan and says " believe it not " and they rejected the gospel and became carnal , sensual and devilish from that time forth. ( Nibley adds stupid to the list ) Seems downright simple to lead people astray. I think we are missing some history here. Some may go from purity to adultery in one step but most are led 'carefully' to that point. Satan and his minions try to convince us that there is no God and hence no consequences for any action we partake in. Failing that , his ongoing ploy is to suggest that even if there is a God , that 1. He is not concerned with us ,or 2. we will not receive much if any punishment for our sins because He loves us.

1. Those who die are here on this planet, somewhere. Why not at a mall or some other place you know about? Do you expect them to stay in places where nobody else is? Why would they want to do that? I'm going to want to be around people I know now and am related to whether or not they'll ever be able to see me while I appear only as a ghost/spirit.

2. Why do people use words like "haunting". I'd prefer to think of it as them just hanging around. Seems better to me to be around people than to be alone with nobody else around me.

3. If you saw a ghost/spirit how would you know that you had seen one? They look just like regular people. It's only when you go to touch one that you realize you're not able to touch them, or at least not feel them when you do.

So are you suggesting that they are visible? There would be billions of them. And think of all the fly's and spiders. The thought of hundreds of spirits hanging out in my bedroom or in my bathroom just to be with me is a bit unsettling.

The whole premise of haunted houses is ridiculous Why would any child, for example, want to terrorize mortals? To what end? If one spirit stays around, why wouldn't everybody? Think of the millions of unjustified deaths. We would be awash in spirits.

Who says they are trying to terrorize mortals? All I have is the show's on TV to go on but it seems that majority of "haunting" are not dead people trying to terrorize people. In other instances there is definitely malevolent spirits there. Of course I am not sure what to make of the whole thing. I am not sure why some spirits are drawn to certain places. All I can say is it seem pretty evident that some spirits do in fact stay behind.

Scripturally I do not think there is any support for hauntings by the spirits of deceased mortals. They either go to spirit prison or paradise acording to their various circumstances.

It is my beliefthat any hauntings, memories of past lives, automatic writing, etc. are the influence of the spiritsthat did not keep their first estate and now are haunting the earth in an effort to help all mankind become as miserable as they are.

It is true that Saul supposedly communes with the departed Samuel in 1 Samuel 28 called up by the witch of Endor, but the church does not view that as a legitimate vision. That would still be one of the evil spirits that deceived Saul into giving up all hope.

According to the scriptures, those evil spirits have been around from the very beginning. We do not know what powers they have, but the scriptures do record posessions by them, etc.

IT is said that the spirit world is this planet. So it makes sense to me. How or why they are able to haunt is the real question that I cannot answer.

Most of us go through our days not physically touching anybody. The entire perceived world we pass through could just as easily be a phantasm, since we don't go around touching/grabbing at things to prove that they are substantial. Maybe we are all "ghosts" who have just not realized it yet. If you have a few companions in your life that you actually do touch, that doesn't prove that all the rest beyond that intimate circle are "real" in the physical sense....

This is a great post. I think Ghosts and the paranormal are real and there is some great documentation out there about them. So I cannot discount it all entirely. And I think you sum up what I think about the matter to a T. And I don't get when some poeple try to rustle them up either esp when it is known to be a malevolent entity.

I have never seen a ghost so all my info is second hand however my brother talks to spirits or ghosts if you prefer. It is quite interesting to see the many different opinions expressed by so many people who supposedly have the same view of the afterlife through believe in the gospel. As for me I was informed by four different people that my house was haunted none of these people had discussed it together previously before letting me know I needed to bless my house. My brother actually supplied the ghosts name as John. After blessing the house my brother informed me that John had moved to the garage and was quite happy with the workshop I had set up out there. We later learned that the old owner of the house was John Smith he had died about four years before his wife and we bought the house from the estate after her death. Now like I said I have never seen a ghost although I would love to have that opportunity. That last statement might confirm me being crazy  but not many of my associates disagree with that anyway.
