I'm practically apoplectic....how in the world does our BYU Cougars Basketball team blow a 12 point lead over San Fran to finally lose by 11 points in the 2nd half... I think the final score was 99 to 88 in favor of San Francisco (I left the room... couldn't stand it)... Then what really had my blood pressure boiling was in the last of the second half, BYU just kept fouling thus handing SF 2 points with every foul.

The idea is to stop the clock and close the score when the other team misses one or both free throw's and we score immediately after. The other team knows that and will put it's best free throw shooters on the floor and or make sure their best shooters have the ball when fouled. It does work for the team that is behind some of the time, but mostly not. It is the last resort.

As for your apoplexy, just think to yourself "It's only the NIT, it's only the NIT".

This (apoplexy) was still part of the regular season...

I thought the team was great in the NIT... even the game with Baylor. Too bad they weren't shooting as well as the two previous games as I really think that if they were, they could have won. But, they didn't... however, they played right along with Baylor... I'm glad it wasn't a run away by Baylor...

Again? Again??! Seems to me I remember the Y doing a bit of foot stomping itself!! :aggressive:;)

Did you see the football game they played last August? BYU was awful! It will be the same deal this year and for the rest of eternity!

You mean for alllll eternity?? You mean like forever eternity? Ha Ha... chuckle-chuckle... cackle cackle... 'scuse me, while I'm ROFL...

I'm getting ready to watch the Baylor - Iowa final game... and what happens?? The sound goes out on my TV... still had a great picture but no sound (we're in a rainstorm and my picture crackled and broke up for just a second and then no sound). Oh no!! What to do!! So I call the service people and one fellow was very patient with me and walked me through the steps I hadn't tried yet and finally the sound is back on... so I'm looking forward to the Baylor-Iowa game. Iowa has a history of beating Baylor in past years, but Baylor didn't have Jackson(?) and his deadly 3-pointers...

And we'll have to see about the Cougs next year for football...

GG

edit to add: Well, I'm glad Baylor won... If BYU had to lose, let it be to the champion... and I notice that Iowa lost by 20 points... 74 to 54... while BYU lost by only 6 points (2 of those from a foul in the last minute). That's it for the season...

I enjoy the stories... and even more "American Ride." And some of the sketches on Studio C are really funny...

As for the sports, at least there's still volleyball... and BYU is #1 in the country... They just swept USC in 3 out of 5 sets... (Take that, V. ) I'll have to check to see who they play next... I thought for sure they'd play today since tomorrow is conference...

I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb to say the reason BYU players are so good is their non party life at school.

Wish I was into watching, my mother was a huge BYU sports fan like you and went to school there also. She dated a well known athlete, I'm going to google it because I'm forgetting his name.

BYU women's soccer did really well. They ended their season playing my other favorite women's soccer team, UNC. Great chance to directly compare the two. BYU was valiant and UNC had to fight hard to dominate. Why do I like women's soccer? I've coached girls soccer competitively and college level play is the goal.

I know... I do watch them sometimes. When I was a girl, soccer was my game. I loved playing. One of my favorite things was running down the field with the ball dancing between my feet, waiting for just the right moment. When I watch the BYU girls, I get frustrated sometimes because they don't seem agressive enough, or they'd kick toward the goal from too far out, and of course the other team would send the ball back. I wondered if there were some rules I wasn't aware of...

Is the BYU women's soccer team pretty good? I've never watched them play.

Why do I get the uneasy feeling this is a trick question, and you're just ready to pounce?? Yes, the girls' soccer team is very good. They had a great season.

Nope. Not a trick question. I love it when women's sports teams can kick trash! I saw an intramural women's rugby team play at Northern Arizona University...they are brutal and awesome!

When I was about 10 growing up in So Cal, I was playing tetherball at school on a very hot day, and as was my wont I was playing hard particularly against the boys... Suddenly I felt weak, and this weakness continued and became worse as I sat in class. Finally I passed out... I had suffered a very serious heat stroke. For the next couple years I had to stay out of the sun (embarrassed to have to wear a big wide-brimmed straw hat) and was forbidden from playing any sports or become overheated. I had to sit by and watch my classmates and friends as they played.

Finally, when I entered Jr. High, 7th grade, my doctor released me to start playing sports again... and I went all out, full speed ahead. The only sport I didn't excel in was basketball... but I loved soccer, baseball, tennis, and volleyball and played with real heart... making all the "honor teams." When we made an honor team, we used to get a small strip of colored ribbon for the particular sport to sew on our shirt collar... my collar was filled... and I continued this all through the years (including being a cheerleader for three years), and finally playing singles tennis until almost 50... I suppose I might not have been as adamant about playing sports had I not had to miss out so much those earlier years.

Well, I for one, in my younger years and for a time, liked cougars...oh, but, wait...I don't think we are talking about the same kind of cougars. :)

And, what is all this talk about the University of Korihor being the Lord's University? :P

Wow! I just watched the quarterfinal volleyball MPSF tournament game between BYU and Hawaii... The Cougars managed to squeak by in the 5th set to win 15 to 13 because of an error on Hawaii's part. Both teams played really well... and Hawaii was playing their best volleyball as they had won their last 4 games coming into tonight's match.

Cougars won the 1st and 4th sets; Hawaii the 2nd and 3rd, sending them into the 5th set. I feel drained because it was so exciting...

Too bad volleyball doesn't really count as a real sport and the BYU cougars aren't a real team...

I'm chuckling, V... I'm chuckling... yeah, BYU is only the #1 men's volleyball team in the country....

I'm very excited... beginning Thurs., April 25 at, I think, 7:00 PM, PDT... on BYU-TV, the Men's Volleyball team will host and play in the semi-finals of the MPSF tournament... and, because of their #1 seed status, BYU will host the remainder of the tournament, which will all be shown on BYU-TV.

I can hardly wait for the next game... I forget who they play... have to check the schedule... I hope they learned something from the close call they had playing #6 seed Hawaii, barely squeaking by, but even the coaches were saying that Hawaii was playing well above their usual performance,,, even the announcers were excited and saying again and again that we were seeing first-rate volleyball from both sides...

Did anyone watch the game last night? What a match!! Semi-finals...

#4 seed UCLA was on fire and had come from a winning streak and the 1st set went back and forth, point by point, with UCLA winning 25 - 23. The first 2 sets were closely taken by UCLA... so the 3rd set was a "must win" for the Cougars if they wanted to stay in the match... The Cougars came out swinging and won the set 25 - 18, sending them into a 4th set... also a must win situation for the Cougars if they wanted a 5th set with hopes of winning the match... By this time my blood pressure must have been sky high the sets were so exciting...

The Cougars again, back and forth... but they played with skill and heart, and prevailed, winning the 4th set... sending them into a 5th set for the match. Both teams played hard, but the Cougars played hardest and best, winning the 5th set... and the match!!

They go on now to the finals to play against #3 seed Long Beach State Univ... Saturday night 4/27 on BYU-TV at 6:00 PM , PDT...

C'mon Valentinus... I challenge you to watch the finals and give in and cheer for the Cougs...

edit to add... You too Nathair... Grrrr
