it's you country and so you can do whatever you want but don't act suprised when someone starts a shooting spree and kills more people

Why would that surprise anyone. There are nuts everywhere. If the laws on the books now don't stop them what rational thought would conclude that adding additional laws will stop them. To me the insanity in this whole thing is those who believe that all you have to do is write a law and these nuts are going to read it and obey. If I am ever in a crowded theater when someone starts something like that I can only pray that it is one of the times I decided to carry or that someone else decided too and that they are proficient with their weapon. In the meantime I certainly pray that my choices are never limited to either disarm or become a law breaker.

How do nutcases get guns in the first place?

No, I was correcting you. You said;

That is not what semi-auto means.

I have three semiauto...my .22's can hold 18 rounds. My SKS can hold ten naturally, with a magazine it will hold however many the mag hold. My 410 has a mag...but bolt action and will only hold 4 rounds. My .29 gage is a pump. All my handguns are semiauto...I got rid of the revolver because it had no safety...all of my remaining guns all have safety and are kept locked up.

Semiauto means it hold more rounds and you can pull the trigger as fast as you like...at least that is I thought I was implying. When I was a boy I had two "single shots" which meant every time I fired I had to reload another round.

I hear what you are saying. For example I can go hunting with a bolt action rifle where it holds more than one bullet, yet after each shot I have to re-chamber another round. This is not a semi-auto because I have to re-chamber after each shot but I did not have to reload. You were saying a semi-auto is firing with out reloading. I corrected you by saying there are guns out there that you do not have to reload but are not semiautomatic.

reloading is not the same as rechambering

Because in some cases we don't know they are nut cases until too late, or they get them by illegal means. In other cases they are given guns as gifts such as your grandfather dies and leaves you his vintage 1911 (a type of pistol).

If guns (every type) are made illegal and the strictest punishments are made for those who break the law, it still will not stop criminals and crazies from obtaing a gun and using it for evil purposes.

Duncan, Duncan haven't you been reading what has been posted? Not through legal sources. That is the point.

My nephew has guns worth 30,000 dollars or more that he got when his fath-in-law died...some dating back to revolutionary war and Civil war. Also you are correct this guy showed no signs of being crazy of having a criminal record before. Good point...the grenades however; don't know how he pulled that off, unless it is rumor?

I have!!! but maybe the sources legal or otherwise need to be tightened up or looked at

How do you tighten the otherwise...most illegal guns are bought after stolen. Crimnals don't care about laws. I have to go though anFBI background check to by any gun...also to get a carry permit. While serving as a police officer I had to have one every year. Ihave had at least 40 of them in my life. When I worked doing inspections at the airport I had to have two a year, one for the City of Atlanta and one for the airport even though I wore a police badge.

I think the grenades were homemade. I sold my first 22 I received when my Grandpa died, now I wish I had not.

reloading is not the same as rechambering

"reloading" can mean either recharging the magazine or recharging the firing chamber.

"rechambering" is a gunsmithing term where a firearm's firing chamber is modified in some manor. I suppose it could be used in the manner you are using it, but I think it is confusing. You can "chamber a round" by putting a round in the firing chamber. Not sure how you would "re-chamber" a round unless you removed the round from the chamber and then "re-chambered" that same round.

Both an "automatic" and a "semi-automatic" will automatically reload the firing chamber, as long as the magazine (or clip, depending on the weapon) has ammunition. An automatic will fire again unless the trigger is released. A semi-auto will only fire again, AFTER the trigger is release and then pulled (again).

"reloading" the magazine (or clip), or replacing the magazine, is a separate (and usually manual) operation.

Communication is the problem to the answer.

They are being looked at. They are called criminals. It seems there is so much of it the authorities can't keep up. Organized crime finds that the illegal trafficking in guns to be quite lucrative. The last I heard they don't pay much attention to laws.

Duncan,

I am an engineer. Sometimes when trying to understand a problem it is enlightening to look at the extremes of the problem. So, here is my model for looking at the extremes of the gun control debate.

Now, this is going to require you to use your imagination because I am going to ask you to place yourself in the position of a despicable, ruthless, blood thirsty, depraved prison escapee. You have just killed a guard (or several) and taken his weapon. You are standing at the cross road between two very different communities.

On the right, you have NRAville. These people are "CRAZY" gun lovers. It is required by law for every adult to own, be proficient in the use of, and carry a fire arm. They also have the death penalty and are NOT conservative in its use. They apply it for both murder and RAPE.

On the left, you have Utopia. These people HATE guns and LOVE peace. It is illegal to have a firearm of ANY kind. All their guns have been confiscated. Even police officers can ONLY carry a gun when on duty. They must leave their weapons at the police station when off duty. These people are so compassionate that they have eliminated the death penalty and believe that ALL criminals can be rehabilitated with psychotherapy.

Now, back to you, the despicable, ruthless, blood thirsty, depraved prison escapee that must pray upon society to thrive, standing at the cross roads armed with a gun. Which way are you going to go? Why?

Not to mention our Gov't giving guns to drugloards.

Too often we find ourselves in (what I like to call) "violent AGREEMENT" :aggressive: , but not knowing it because we are using words differently.

It sucks, but welcome to the human race. :pardon:

Now that was an insult of America. I assure you NRA -ville does not approve of stealing from anyone.

Well, just keep in mind that gun control is really only gun control for the poor. If you are rich, you can always buy the license that allows you to have the weapon of your choice, (up to but not including a nuclear bomb.)

Want a machine gun? NO PROBLEM!!! Just pay the "transfer tax" and then you are legal to own one.

Well, what else can he say? Something that is actually responsive/articulate/intelligent?

Besides, isn't it OBVIOUS that with everyone armed, THEFT must be common place!!! /s
