Libs Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) You're an outlier. You, too, need an XML-700 Chip Adjustment, and you, too, have forgotten the 14th Article of Faith.lol....I had to look up that "14th Article"...thought I had missed one! Have to admit, I know nothing of those "snooty and snobby Utah Mormons". (I've heard about them, though ) Edited February 20, 2012 by Libs
Messenger Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I've lived in Oregon for years, and then moved to Utah. Speaking from experience...........There is nothing more snooty and snobby than an IDAHO MOROMONhere's your sign .....
Scott Lloyd Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) Was hoping to get a chance to post this this on Kenngo's reprisal thread before it inevitably got locked, but I missed my chance. The founding chapter would be in Salt Lake County, since that's where I'm from. But we'd establish chapters in each of Utah's 29 counties and branch out to other states of the Union and Canadian provinces. And just as you don't have to have Mormon Pioneer ancestry these days to belong to SUP, we'll welcome people whether they're from Utah or not. But wait. That could do violence to our reputation, 14th Article of Faith and all. We'll have to vote on that when we do the by-laws. Edited February 20, 2012 by Scott Lloyd 2

You could shorten it to "Damn Utah Mormons Club," or simply DUM Club for short. If it was restricted to males only, it could be the "Damn Utah Mormon Boys Club."Regards,Pahoran 2

Calm Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) I don't think I qualify for the Damn Utah Mormons club (or the female auxiliary if it's the Damn Utah Mormon Boys Club) because I have to admit to hating Utah weather and being stuck in a valley surrounded by mostly brown mountains (love getting up into the mountains though where it's green). I do love my little pocket of green though....except in July and August. So I think I'll just purchase a "I love a Damn Utah Mormon Boy" bumper sticker and put it on my car if that's okay. rodheadlee Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Was the reason he was shunned was that he was not LDS or some other reason?Their family wasn't LDS.
Calm Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Their family wasn't LDS.I get this image of the Lord coming along and slapping the back of the head of certain LDS, saying "what in the world were you thinking?" from time to time. It's not only parents that have to be concerned about someone else's sin being placed upon their heads in my opinion.
Storm Rider Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 You're an outlier. You need an XML-700 Chip Adjustment. You've forgotten the Fourteenth Article of Faith: "We Damn Utah Mormons believe in being snooty, snobby, and standoffish."Ken, I don't think I was trying to condemn Utah Mormons (my wife's family are Utah Mormons), but I just don't want to be one of them. I don't want to live in Utah. I know there are some truly wonderful people who live there, but danged if you guys don't come up with the most stupid things about being a LDS. This is not an accusation about an individual, it is my silly little deduction by living there for a few years and seeing, hearing about a whole host of really obnoxious things that Mormons do and expect of each other in Utah. I wonder if I just dug the hole a little deeper in your eyes? Buy you are right, I am so grateful to not be there; where is my dang Rameumptom.
Calm Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 One of the problems with having an international church (probably not so much now with the internet and travel), is the odd practices and ideas that creep in among the faithful, I've heard quite a few being reported but the only ones I remember now off the top of my head was a practice having to do with the sacrament that was started by German (?) Saints when they were cut off during the war and something along the lines of a refusal to step down by a East European bishop back in the 90s due to a misunderstanding that being a bishop was not a lifetime job or supposed to be a step up the religious corporate ladder. I don't think it is only Utah that has that kind of problem, it is simply the higher numbers lead to more occurrences, likely the probabilities are about the same.

LeSellers Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) It's not only parents that have to be concerned about someone else's sin being placed upon their heads in my opinion.Parents are not responsible for anyone else's sins, not even their children's.I have found that this misunderstanding is widespread among the Saints. But it is a misunderstanding. We need to read Doc&Cov 68 more closely.25 ... inasmuch as parents have children in Zion, or in any of her stakes which are organized, that teach them not to understand the doctrine of repentance, faith in Christ the Son of the living God, and of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of the hands, when eight years old, the sin be upon the heads of the parents. 26 For this shall be a law unto the inhabitants of Zion, or in any of her stakes which are organized. It does not say that their (the children's) sins will be upon the heads of the parents, but that the parents' own sin (of not teaching their children) will be on their heads. In other words, we cannot blame the Primary or Sunday School for a failure to teach the children. That sin is ours (if we don't obey this law), not the Church's.We teach as instructed here; we do not coerce. If a child determines not to be baptized, that is his choice—he and he alone is accountable.Lehi Edited February 21, 2012 by LeSellers

This is a landmark post for me, my 12,000th on this board.Funeral potatoes and green Jell-O (with and without the shredded carrots) are being served at the National Headquarters Building of Damn Utah Mormons.(But don't be surprised if you show up and I seem snooty, stand-offish, weird, and do "really obnoxious things" and expect the same of you.) What's obnoxious about that? 1
Calm Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I don't mind that so much, it's the greeting of the rising of the sun and moon every day with the BYU Cougar Fight Song from the speakers suspended from the roof of the house. Five or six houses on the street playing it full blast twice daily not only cuts into my sleep and increases my hearing loss, but I think it's peeling off the stucco, the dog refuses to come out from under the couch in the basement and the local wildlife appears to be developing some weird mating habits. 1

The district administration let the kids vote on what their mascot would be, selected from a number of choices. The favorite was "Corner Canyon Cougars."The school board nixed it. But instead of giving their reasoning straight out -- that they didn't want to upset the University of Utah fans -- they gave out the weird excuse that the name "cougar" would offend middle-age women. The ostensible reasoning was so stupid that it went nationwide, to all the major news outlets. It was in Sports Illustrated and was a joke on the NPR comedy quiz program "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me."In writing about it in his Deseret News column, Doug Robinson had a great quote from Mark Twain: "God made idiots first. That was for practice. Then he made school boards." Edited February 21, 2012 by Scott Lloyd
