And doing more than just keeping you company or giving encouragement, they are there "to bear you up".

"Ye Shall be as Gods". (from Genesis 3:5 / Moses 4:11)

I know, it's not the full scripture and it's technically a quote from Satan. However, he's right. Their eyes were opened and they gained knowledge--very good things.

It also happens to show up in the intro of one of my all-time favorite video games.

I used to have that scripture in my sig line written in the Deseret Alphabet.

1 John 1:9

King James Version (KJV)

9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

John 15:18-19

18: If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19: If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

These verses answered a question for me that I didn't even know I asking. It was a realization that has changed my whole life.

Romans chapter 12 because, for me, it always answers how and why.

Great Chapter! Nice choice.

Alma 26:8-12

8 Blessed be the name of our God; let us sing to his praise, yea, let us give thanks to his holy name, for he doth work righteousness forever.

9 For if we had not come up out of the land of Zarahemla, these our dearly beloved brethren, who have so dearly beloved us, would still have been racked with hatred against us, yea, and they would also have been strangers to God.

10 And it came to pass that when Ammon had said these words, his brother Aaron rebuked him, saying: Ammon, I fear that thy joy doth carry thee away unto boasting.

11 But Ammon said unto him: I do not boast in my own strength, nor in my own wisdom; but behold, my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God.

12 Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

This is one of my favorites. It cemented my decision to serve a mission.

Here’s that whole story.

[2 Nephi 31:20] 20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

Not to make light of your choice of favorite scripture, but I couldn't help but notice but you must be a fan of Halo: Reach.

A very intriguing game, and story line.

I have several favorite scriptures, but two stand out:

Alma 12:9,10

9 And now Alma began to expound these things unto him, saying: It is given unto many to know the mysteries of God; nevertheless they are laid under a strict command that they shall not impart only according to the portion of his word which he doth grant unto the children of men, according to the heed and diligence which they give unto him.

10 And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.

DC 121:45,46

45 Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.

46 The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.

Romans 8:16,17

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

And as to WHY, well, they give me hope as to the reward that God has for the faithful: to understand all, to be in the free-flowing stream of grace and power of God, and to inherit all that God has to offer.

This is tough to narrow down.

I like D&C 121 because it reminds me how to be a great husband and father.

I like D&C 93 because it opens up the very nature of truth and our relationship to God.

Ether 3:13

And when he had said these words, behold, the Lord ashowed himself unto him, and said: bBecause thou knowest these things ye are redeemed from the fall; therefore ye are brought back into my cpresence; therefore I dshow myself unto you.

It's my favorite because one day I hope to see the Lord and hear these words from His mouth. Not just for me but for my family and friends as well.
