altersteve Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 I just got back from The Heat. It's funny, and I really like Melissa McCarthy, but there is quite a bit of language and crude humor. I also really liked Pacific Rim.
Ron Beron Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Anybody see, "The Lone Ranger"? Anybody? Any? Hmmm
Calm Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Tonto was my favourite character back in the day. No way am I going to see this version.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 (edited) Last Movie I watched was Star Trek into Darkness on Monday night with 2 of my sons. My second time watching 1st in 2d . We enjoyed it immensily. the film before that was superman, an excellent filmTimI saw it Friday. I really enjoyed it. I think it was just as good as the film before it. If people have not seen it and they are not really a "Trekkie" they need to watch the original Star Trek II and also the reboot Star Trek. And you need to watch the original series episode "The Trouble with Tribbles". I mean, you will still enjoy the film but I really like all of the elements the incorporated. So far it is my fav film this year. Edited July 15, 2013 by Mola Ram Suda Ram

bluebell Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Anybody see, "The Lone Ranger"? Anybody? Any? HmmmI haven't, but both my counselors saw it and each raved about how good it was. They said it was very entertaining and funny and a very good family film.
Calm Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Wow, looks like critics hated it and audiences enjoyed it more or less, 27% for critics and 64% for audiences at Rotten Tomatoes:http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_lone_ranger/
altersteve Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) The Lone Ranger is not really a family film. It's surprisingly violent for a Disney movie, and it even pushes the PG-13 rating to the limit at times. It never crosses into R-rated territory, of course, but there is a scene of cannibalism (not graphic, but you know what's happening) and a couple references to rape, and the action scenes are a little overkill at times. And sometimes it seems like it doesn't really know whether it wants to be an action movie, a comedy, or a drama, and those tonal shifts are often a little jarring -- plus it's WAY too long.I enjoyed some scenes, but I was overall disappointed. My counselors were asked by the secretary whether or not it was a fitting show for her grade school kids and they said yes and, when asked specifically about violence or anything graphic neither one of them could think of a thing! (and these are ladies in their 50's and 60's who were lamenting how so many movies these days are violent and immoral).

How times have changed from the days when I watched the Lone Ranger and Tonto... from what I've seen in the previews, Tonto has really changed...I guess I'll see it, if for the contrast if nothing else... wonder if LR ever gave his "Hi Ho Silver, Away!! shout...GG

It seems that you can only demonstrate a guy is really evil these days by such stuff, guess everything else is too run of the mill.

Tacenda Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Attended a premier of "The Way, Way Back" with Steve Carrell. It's an independent film and not in many theatres yet, but believe it will be, hopefully because it's a good movie, rated pg13. It made me laugh and get emotional in parts. Very well acted too.
thesometimesaint Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Just finished my once a year watching of the Harry Potter Series.
followerofemmanuel Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 (edited) I just watched blood diamond. I can honestly say, I never want a diamond after watching this movie,Trailer: About movie and reality of the situation:"Blood Diamond is a 2006 American political war thriller film co-produced and directed by Edward Zwick, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou.[3] The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in African war zones and sold to finance conflicts, and thereby profit warlords and diamond companies across the world.Set during the Sierra Leone Civil War in 1996–2001, the film shows a country torn apart by the struggle between government soldiers and rebel forces.[4] It also portrays many of the atrocities of that war, including the rebels' amputation of people's hands to discourage them from voting in upcoming elections. The film's ending, in which a conference is held concerning blood diamonds, refers to an actual meeting that took place in Kimberley, South Africa in 2000 and led to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, which seeks to certify the origin of rough diamonds in order to curb the trade in conflict diamonds. The film received mixed but generally favorable reviews."About the movie and the truthful reality of suffering: Edited July 22, 2013 by followerofemmanuel
Garden Girl Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) I just watched blood diamond. I can honestly say, I never want a diamond after watching this movie,I saw Blood Diamond several years ago... I thought "Blood Diamond" referred to the color of the diamond, which is what made it so valuable and sought after... it had a pink/red tinge... not to the political climate in which it is mined. I thought the movie made this point, regardless of the conflict going on within thecountry.GG Edited July 23, 2013 by Garden Girl

It doesn't have anything to do with the color. US policy forbids the import of blood diamonds i believe.

I must have misinterpreted the particular diamond emphasized in the movie 1) because it was so large, and 2) because of it's color... red, i.e., a Blood Diamond... (much like there are yellow diamonds and blue diamonds). I thought the reason Leonardo and the other fellow hid it and fought for it was because its value if sold was their ticket of escape from the country... that was just the impression I got... hmmm... wrong I guess...GG
altersteve Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 Watched The Conjuring last night! I didn't lose any sleep over it but I jumped pretty bad quite a few times. I'm a big fan of horror films.

The movie was set during the Sierra Leone Civil War (which occurred in the late 1990's I think) and highlighted the plight of the Africans who were forced to mine the diamonds and turn them over to corrupt leaders to fund their exploits.

I'm excited to see this one. I normally try not to watch rated R movies but I read that the sole reason this one was rate R is because it's just plain to scary to be PG13 and no other reason-no gore, sex, or language. So I think i'll definitely see it when it comes to video.
altersteve Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 There is some mild gore in one or two scenes (throwing up blood), but nothing extreme.
